What's in My Snack Kit: How I Prevent Blood Sugar Crashes and Histamine Flares

Some women carry a signature lipstick or a lucky charm in their bag. Me? I carry survival — but make it luxe. ✨ Between ADHD energy dips, blood sugar crashes, and those dreaded histamine flares that turn an ordinary day into chaos, I’ve learned one thing: self-care isn’t optional, it’s preparation. My little snack kit might look simple, but it’s the secret weapon that keeps me steady, glowing, and in control — no matter where the day takes me.

Why I Carry a Snack Kit

Ever been stuck in traffic, errands piling up, and suddenly your blood sugar tanks? Yeah, been there. That shaky, lightheaded, hangry feeling is no fun — especially when you’ve got a full day ahead and zero time to hunt down food.

That’s why I started carrying my own snack kit. Not a messy ziplock tossed in my tote — but a curated little lifesaver that keeps my energy steady and my mood happy. Because a true Glow Lady doesn’t just prepare for the day — she sets herself up to shine through it.

I have to eat every 2-3 hours. With the long list of tasks that I have to do and the activities that I have, my metabolism somehow revved up, thinking that I'm an athlete again.

A couple of months ago, I found myself getting hungry earlier than usual, having unexpected crashes, and flares, or suddenly feeling shaky while out.

I've had blood sugar crashes before, so I know how it feels like. But this time, they've become more frequent. And that's when I sat down and took a look at my life. My activities have doubled and I was writing again. That means I'm burning through calories faster, so my body was asking for more fuel.

This is the reason why I started the Desk Bento Diaries in my food blog. If you're interested to see that, just head on over there. Type 'Desk Bento Diaries' in the search box.

After I incorporated this small habit, my everyday life changed completely.

Sometimes self-care isn’t a bubble bath or a spa day — it’s giving your body the quiet, consistent love it’s been begging for all along.

I have more energy. I rarely need a nap now. I can focus for a long time to finish writing blog posts and books, which is a feat when you're ADHD like me. And surprisingly, I noticed that I was getting fewer flares. My face is healing. I don't get as many rashes anymore. My face used to be covered in rashes that turn into acne-like pustules. They were itchy and painful.

I observed this for a while and proved that if my blood sugar crashes, I get more rashes. Sometimes I don't get to eat a pre-breakfast snack (yeah, it's a thing with me. Just go through the archives and you'll see some of my posts with photos of my pre-breakfast snacks). I do a lot of chores when I wake up and only cook breakfast after I shower. So, I need to fuel up before having a proper meal.

The Essentials Inside My Kit

Vitamin Boosted Gum (M&S) – immune support on the go, gentle on the stomach.

Hanuta Hazelnut Wafer – quick energy + a little moment of joy.

Mentos (Mint & Spearmint) – freshness, light sugar boost if needed. Mentos helped me a lot during that horrible toe accident. See how it helped me here.

Nerds Gummy Clusters – emergency sugar hit for ADHD slumps. When I was a teenager, I always carried a pack of Nerds in my bag. It helped me with blood sugar crashes. By the way, I'm not diabetic. It's more of a dysautonomia thing.

I remember that day when my ortho said that I had scoliosis. It was a surprise discovery. I was there for another issue. He ordered an x-ray and discovered it. I got scared and suddenly felt so dizzy. Mom said, "eat some Nerds." The doctor told me to lie down for a while while I sucked on Nerds. I felt better after a few minutes.

Every piece in my kit has a story like this — proof that small, thoughtful things can rewrite a whole day, even a scary one.

Not in photo - Meiji Black Chocolate - I always have this in my bag. We ran out that's why I put Hanuta in there. I always need to have some chocolate in there. Chocolate boosts my blood sugar fairly quick.

I just got a box yesterday and will add that to the kit when the hanuta gets eaten.

Some might say that these are all "junk", but my goal is to raise our blood sugar quickly to avoid a total crash. And in my experience, these are the best to raise those levels quickly, without triggering allergies or flares in both me and my son.

Compact and Ready to Go

There’s something deeply satisfying about snapping this little case shut, knowing that no matter what life throws my way, I’m ready to handle it with grace (and maybe a little chocolate).

It's amazing how this small kit fits everything perfectly! Do you recognize it? I also use a similar kit for my weekday makeup

This kit fits perfectly in my tote, and keeps our snacks clean and organized. With it's structure, it's mom-life-proof.

When we're out, we never know when our blood sugar will take a dip. This snack kit allows me to prevent blood sugar crashes from worsening. Both my son and husband benefit from it, too. We don't normally eat out as my son prefers home-cooked meals, so sometimes we go home hungry after a few hours of shopping. I would give a few sweet treats to my husband, so he won't get dizzy while driving. He gets crashes, too.

I don't have to rely on what's available in the mall or some random vending machine options because I'm always prepared.  And that is empowering.

How This Supports My Soft Life

Practical self-care = fewer stress spikes, fewer flares, more energy for what matters (my son, writing, glowing).

It's so simple that I asked myself, "why haven't I thought of this before??" 😆

Little rituals like this turn errands and long days out into something stress-free and luxe. We don't have to rush or speed shop just to get home before we run out of fuel. I'm more relaxed and more focused, preventing me from forgetting things (things to buy, places to go to).

It’s not just snacks, Glow Ladies — it’s security, it’s kindness, it’s a quiet promise that my glow won’t flicker just because the world forgets to slow down for me.

Glow Ladies, your glow doesn’t just come from serums and lipstick swipes — it starts with how you treat your body before it even asks for help. My snack kit is my love letter to future-me: steady, safe, and smiling instead of spiraling. Build your own little stash of comfort and care, toss it in your bag, and let every day out feel softer, calmer, and more luxe. Because you deserve a life where your body feels supported — always. 💕
