Beauty News: Is it the End for Avon?

Photo from Avon Philippines Avon has been a part of Filipinas for many generations. The company has been very successful in the country, to say the least but rumors are buzzing in the US that they are about to close. According to 24/7 Wall St., the brand may be extinct by the end of the year. Avon ladies are very popular here in the country but in the US, they are a dying breed. So what’s going on with the company? Back in January 2012, the company’s vice chairman was fired due to ongoing investigations about bribery.  After that, they got into trouble with the FDA after some new products in the ANEW line were found to carry claims prohibited by FDA guidelines.  In December, Avon announced that they were planning to cut 1,500 jobs worldwide and will be pulling out of Vietnam and South Korea. Those are our neighbors, are we next? I, personally won’t be affected if Avon pulls out from the PH. Sure, I had a good run with them but last year I found most of thei...

October Cosmetics

As mentioned in my previous post,  I will be grouping my cosmetics monthly so that I will be able to use all of them. If you only knew how much cosmetics I have! I really want to use and finish them all. So I hope I can have good results with this experiment. Here are my October Cosmetics: I know it looks chaotic but don’t worry! I grouped them and took individual photos. Let’s start with the face: I seriously need to finish my Laura Mercier cream foundation (Bamboo Beige). It’s hanging by a thread and I think I only have 3 uses left for this tube. Next is the Palgantong Powder in Pearl Beige. I haven’t used this yet although I have used it on my clients. Let’s see if it can at least live with my acidic face for a couple of hours. This Benefit That Gal primer is also hanging by a thread so I better finish it fast. Next is Benefit High Beam and ELF HD Undereye Setting Powder (to be blogged soon). Lastly, the Benefit Confessions of a Concealaholic kit. This is another produc...

Short but Sweet

I truly, truly wanted to blog today but as it turned out, I drowned in paperwork. Well, still drowning, that is. It’s tax season for Hyphen so I must focus my energy on doing that. Anyway, in between meetings, events, talking to suppliers and manning our booths at Victoria de Manila and Alphaland Mall, I was able to squeeze in some shopping.  So this is going to be a haul post. My Avon loot, thanks to Ms. J of Avon at Victoria de Manila. I need a container for my Fossil sunglasses so I got this. Yes, Fossil sunglasses are expensive but cheap when it comes to containers. They only gave us flimsy cloth bags to keep our sunnies in. Unfortunately, my sunglasses still don’t fit in this box but it will suffice. I only keep them in the car anyway. I was looking for a lipstick shade similar to my Avon Berry Mauvy so I got this. Will post a different review on this. It’s not similar at all but I love it! The other lippy is for mom. The necklace is for me. Here’s another haul from Etude...

3-Step EOTD

Looking pretty shouldn’t be complicated that’s why I came up with an EOTD using these: The eye shadow sticks are from Avon and the single e/s is TFS. Here’s a closer look at the purple Avon stick: It’s an eyeshadow/liner duo. Here are swatches of all the products that we will use: For the 3-Step Day Look, we will only use the gold Avon stick and the duo. 1. Apply the pink shadow (duo) all over your lid. 2. Apply the gold e/s as a highlight under your brow bone. 3. Line your eyes with the purple liner. You’re done! The only thing I don’t like about this liner is it takes a long time to dry and it smears. Just look at that photo. For a 4-Step Night Look, just pat the TFS eye shadow all over the pink e/s. Fix your liner and maybe do a cat eye. I skipped the cat eye here. So, what do you think of this simple look?

Shopping: Of Kitty Purses and Avon Addictions

I am absolutely out of control when it’s November to December when it comes to shopping. Oh, and when it’s my birthday month too. And I also feel extra generous this time of the year. Case in point: My Avon lady friend who is very nice and very kind (giving me extended installment plans!) surprised me with these last Wednesday. In the pouch is the Fiona (?) nightwear. It looks like a sun dress but for sleeping . The makeup kit comes with the lipstick and lip liner as a set (Php355). This is my first lip liner in a long time. I don’t use lip liners. The last I used them was when I was a teenager. I also bought my favorite Avon jewelry: Here’s the pouch: It’s so roomy and it has compartments inside. Perfect! And speaking of pouches and purses… I got Kitten and moi matching kitty purses! I also bought 2 card holders as I go through them like popcorn, harhar! I’m currently using the polka dot one.  I got these last Sunday but postponed blogging about it to surprise...
