Blush, But Make It Boundaries – Beauty Rituals That Help Me Say No

Blush isn’t just makeup—it’s a quiet act of rebellion. A soft pink stroke that says, ‘No, not today.’ A bold lipstick that reminds me I’m not here to be small. Beauty is more than appearance for me now—it’s how I set boundaries, protect my energy, and remind myself who’s really in charge of my life. Blush: Reclaiming Color, Reclaiming Power I've been scared to apply blush ever since I got rosacea. The redness always shined through just after an hour or two of applying makeup.  I piled on more foundation hoping that the redness won't show, but that only made the problem worse. My skin couldn't breathe and I developed more rashes.  I felt like I had to hide, to tone it down, instead of celebrating my face. I'm healing from rosacea now because I survived three autoimmune diseases - polymyositis, fibromyalgia, chronic idiopathic urticaria. So many doctors have given up on me, but I didn't give up on myself. I purged all the harmful medicines they gave me through the yea...

How I Stay Stylish While Making Everyday Errands Feel Like Self-Care

A Slow Start for a Full Day I woke up earlier than usual yesterday because my son had lessons. After my morning ritual, I cooked a hearty high-protein breakfast.  Breakfast sausage patties, eggs, garlic fried rice I didn't rush. I even had time to read a few paragraphs from a book I've been trying to finish for a few weeks now. I set the tone for the day with intention and nourishment. By slowing down, I also gave my ADHD brain room to breathe. I was able to brainstorm a few ideas for my blog before I started my day.  Starting slow and strong makes it easier to stay present throughout the day. Products I’ve Actually Used Up Do you remember the hitting pan craze in the early 2000s? I used to document all the products that I've used up in this blog. I get giddy when I use up a product. I've used up 3 in 3 days. Completely finished: • Bobbi Brown Corrector • The Face Shop Daily Moment Hand Cream • The Face Shop Lemon Verbena Body Lotion This is proof that I really use th...

Soft Starts: How I Begin My Week with Ease

How do you feel when you hear the word, 'Monday'? For most, it evokes feeling of dread, anxiety, and severe stress. I used to be one of those people, too. Until I decided to embrace my feminine, soft side.  My masculine side is very strong. I've always been one of the strongest, if not the strongest in our family. I'm the one who figures things out. That is well and good, but I can't keep pouring from an empty cup. I have learned to say no and to get my priorities straight. My name being at the top of the list.  My Mondays are not for hustling. It's for setting my intention for the whole week. I use Mondays to set the mood, the tone, and the attitude for the following days.    Mondays are no longer a race for me — they’re a gentle return to myself. Soft intention is my strategy. Monday Begins Today, I woke up when my body said yes. I don't set alarms except for specific occasions when I really need to get up early. I'm a night owl. So is my son. We are b...

Conversations Behind the Counter: Ceje from BYS (Glow Guide Diaries #1)

In my latest Soft Saturday Diaries , I mentioned that I dropped by the BYS pop-up shop at SM Makati. I had a very interesting time there, talking to one of the, what I would call, Glow Guides — women who don’t just sell makeup, but help you glow from the inside out. Her name is Ceje.  I regularly see BYS at Watsons in a small gondola. This is the first time I've seen so many BYS products in one place!  I was immediately drawn to these stick blushes and bronzers My loyal Glow Ladies know that I have been experimenting with BYS makeup for the past month. I used to be an Estee Lauder Group girl. I used Clinique skincare daily. My makeup consisted of Bobbi Brown, MAC, Estee Lauder, and other high-end brands. However, years of autoimmune medication have wrecked havoc on my body, leaving me with a number of skin issues. At first it was chronic urticaria then painful cystic acne, and now the remnants of papulopustular rosacea. Clinique skincare wasn't working for me anymore. B...
