May 2013 Empties

I’m really happy that I was able to finish a lot of makeup in May aside from the usual toiletries. The Face Shop Nail Polish Remover and Johnson’s Cooling Powder I don’t usually apply powders but May was really tough and nights were so unbearably hot. My husband would “bathe” himself in this cooling powder. He would then apply some on my back. We would have a bit of relief, enough to fall asleep. Etude House Surprise Liquid Concealer and NARS Palm Beach This concealer is one of the best budget concealers out there. Back when I reviewed the NARS Palm Beach, I said that it was too dark for me but when summer hit, it was the perfect shade so I’m glad that I hit pan before summer ends. I finally finished this annoying nail polish remover from Etude House! Will definitely NOT repurchase. I super love this hand cream from The Body Shop. I just don’t like the packaging as the sides burst open. I won’t repurchase as there are tons of products out there that have bet...

Time for a Summer Makeup Kit Makeover! (Part 1)

Summer is really crazy here in Manila! I kinda wish I was still working in an office where there is air conditioning for 9 hours. I don’t know how I’m surviving this heat. I can’t even go to the mall to cool down. Anyway, since it’s summer, I’m sure that everyone has changed their wardrobe to fit the temperature. But, have you thought about giving your makeup kit a makeover? You should! Here are my tips for a summer makeup kit. First, you need a bright summery makeup kit. I just found out that I don’t have any summer makeup kits! My Kenzo kit is the closest one I got and it does not even remind me of summer…it reminds me of spring (or Christmas even)! Next, use whatever foundation you are comfortable wearing but if you can find a brightening sun powder, add this to your kit. I use the brightening sun powder from Laneige. This is SPF50+ PA+++. It looks new because I keep forgetting to use it. I should really put this in my kit. This powder smells so good. Then for the eyes, ...

Pink Lipbalms

I recently blogged about the Hello Kitty lipbalm being a disaster (just for me). This is another Hello Kitty lipbalm but in cherry flavor. It’s more pink than the strawberry one but still goes on clear. I also didn’t like this lipbalm because of the overwhelming smell and flavor. If I wanted to eat candy, I will eat candy. I just don’t like lipbalms that have too much flavor in them. On the other hand, I truly love this: This is Maybelline Baby Lips Pink Glow in Mixed Berry. It smells and tastes just right. I’m not sure if the 8-hour promise of moisture is true because I’ve been using all red lipsticks and they tend to dry out my lips. I guess this lipbalm works with other lipsticks just not matte ones. If I’m not mistaken, this costs only Php89 while the Hello Kitty lipbalm costs Php99. I have another Baby Lips lipbalm which is also great. I’ll blog about that soon.

October Cosmetics

As mentioned in my previous post,  I will be grouping my cosmetics monthly so that I will be able to use all of them. If you only knew how much cosmetics I have! I really want to use and finish them all. So I hope I can have good results with this experiment. Here are my October Cosmetics: I know it looks chaotic but don’t worry! I grouped them and took individual photos. Let’s start with the face: I seriously need to finish my Laura Mercier cream foundation (Bamboo Beige). It’s hanging by a thread and I think I only have 3 uses left for this tube. Next is the Palgantong Powder in Pearl Beige. I haven’t used this yet although I have used it on my clients. Let’s see if it can at least live with my acidic face for a couple of hours. This Benefit That Gal primer is also hanging by a thread so I better finish it fast. Next is Benefit High Beam and ELF HD Undereye Setting Powder (to be blogged soon). Lastly, the Benefit Confessions of a Concealaholic kit. This is another produc...

Haul

I love haul posts! I love looking at photos of what kikay girls shop for. I’m more interested in beauty hauls than fashion hauls. Here’s one that I made last weekend. Maybelline Baby Lips Pink Glow, TFS Emery Board, TFS Eyebrow Shavers There’s a missing facial cleanser in the photo. It’s already in the bathroom and I’m too lazy to take a photo of it. I will probably post it here when it runs out. I’ll make a review of it at the same time. Love the packaging of the Baby Lips. I haven’t opened it yet. Will also make a review after I finish the product. I think reviews are more credible that way. It’s been so long since I last went crazy shopping. I’ve only been buying toiletries and groceries. Must be because I own a clothes/accessories/cosmetics shop so I get all my stuff there. I have too much makeup already and my goal is to finish at least one palette before I go and buy another one. I love palettes. I get to buy different products at an affordable price. Can you sense t...

Haul-over Wednesday

Watsons is definitely my favorite “drugstore” but now First Aid is coming in closely at second place. I was looking for a mirror to use in my bazaars last Sunday. MB and I spotted one at Forever21. It was heart-shaped. I’m not a huge fan of hearts so I was feeling so-so about it and it was Php306. I think it was too expensive for a mirror. But it was also the perfect size. MB said to look for more as he knows that I don’t like hearts. So we went to First Aid at Greenbelt and found these mirrors. The Maybelline stuff, I got yesterday. The mirrors are, are you ready for this? Php149 each! So affordable! You can adjust the mirror to 45 and 180 degree angles. I saw two kinds of mirrors. One was taller. I asked the SA about it and she said that the mirrors are adjustable. When I asked MB to assemble them, turns out, the tall mirrors are a different model. Oh, well. These will suffice. On the other hand, I thought I was over my Maybelline phase but I guess first love never dies when it c...

My HG Lip Balm

I am a lip balm addict and that simply means that I’ve tried dozens and dozens of brands/kinds since I was introduced to my first lip balm. So, I am pretty sure that I found the one: The Maybelline Lip Smooth (Cool Mint) may not work for some but it works wonders for me. I thought that this was great until after a few weeks of using it, my lips dried up. I have no idea why it suddenly stopped working. This, however, has not failed me and I hope that it will not in the long run.  This keeps my lips moisturized and hydrated for the whole day. Of course, I keep reapplying whenever my lipstick fades but there are times when my lips are still soft even without the lipstick and this balm. The best part is it comes in mint (my favorite lip balm flavor), is not sickeningly sweet and is very affordable at Php89! I am loving this so much that’s why I’m including it in my birthday giveaway. Click here to join. Here’s a shot of the product to leave you with: Do you have an HG lip bal...

Something great: Maybelline Gel Eyeliner

After the disappointment that is Maybelline Pulse Perfection Vibrating Mascara, let’s talk about something that is definitely a great buy: Maybelline EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Brown This is my first gel eyeliner and I'm very glad that it didn’t disappoint. I’ve read good reviews about this product but it was a bit pricey for me so I waited for it to go on sale. The original price is Php449 but I only got it for Php314.30. I got the brown one because both Landmark and SM ran out of black. It comes with a brush. At first, I thought the brush is going to be blah but I was really surprised that it was soft (non-scratchy) and was perfect for lining the eyes. Here’s another shot: The gel is very fine. It glides on smoothly on my lids. It didn’t give me any allergies and it lasted the whole day. It says on the box that it’s smudge and water proof and is long lasting. Check for all three but I find that the line I draw on my inner lid to almost the center of my ey...

Failed Perfection

I had very high hopes for this mascara, what for its price and all but it turned out to be a complete disaster. I thought that since almost all the Maybelline mascaras that I’ve tried rocked, this one will surpass them all. After all, it’s the most expensive at Php699. I love the packaging. Black and gold always looks sleek and sexy in my book.  Here’s the wand: There’s nothing special there except for the vibrating effect. The neck is made of flimsy material. I thought it would break the first time I used it. I accidentally struck the case with the head of the wand and the neck bended a little. You just push a button at the end of the cap to make it vibrate. It’s not a big vibration. I almost feel that the vibration is useless as the mascara still clumps up on my lashes. Those are the most clumps that I’ve ever experienced with a mascara. Even the ELF mascara didn’t clump like that. This is the reason why I didn’t take a photo. Even after blotting with a tissue, there w...

Angelfit

I finally gave up on my ELF foundation. Sure, it has its benefits but I wanted more out of my foundation. I finally had the guts to shell out more than 500 bucks, one day in October, and never looked back. I’m glad I bought a higher priced foundation. I am now slowly experiencing and learning about the differences in makeup brands and prices. You are really paying for quality. I was a bit apprehensive with this purchase as the SA’s in both SM and Landmark seem to not know what shade to give me. I told them I was acidic so naturally, I needed the lighter shade. The one at SM said that I should use the light beige ochre shade, which is the natural shade, so that I wouldn’t get dark. She said that if I use the lighter shade then I would get dark. This is the first time I’ve heard this. Is is really like that?  I repeated this to the Landmark SA and she agreed but after a few minutes, she asked me again what the other SA said. Then, she said that I should use what the other SA sai...

Do you want some volum’?

I bought this mascara in October and now it is nearing the end of its life. I know that this is a super duper late review so forgive me. It was the time when I just chucked my Magnum mascara and was in dire need of a replacement. The Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara was out of stock and so I headed back to the Maybelline counter. I chose this because it’s only Php249 and I just needed an interim mascara. I didn’t have high expectations, not with the price, but I was surely in for a surprise. For a cheap mascara, this works wonders! The complete name is Volum’ Express Hypercurl 3-in-1 Mascara. Why 3-in-1? It promises to give amazing length, 3x more volume and a 75-degree curl in an instant. The bonus is it lasts for up to 18 hours without clumps. The first two promises are true. The 75-degree curl, I’m not too sure of. I wasn’t satisfied with it. I still needed to use an eyelash curler. The 18 hours thing, I haven’t tested yet and probably won’t but I can surely say that this lasts f...
