From the Editor’s Desk: I Can Move Differently

Dear Glow Girls,

It’s been a while since the last issue.

Right now, as I write this, it’s 12:24 am and I just finished decorating 17 notebooks and fulfilling another big order.

I posted 16 notebooks yesterday and one regular client bought them all.

There goes my inventory.

But I’m very grateful. In fact, thank you. More please.

And Lady Flo also arrived. So, yeah.

I’m sure you can imagine how that’s going for me.

I was swamped with orders one after another at the atelier. There was no breathing room.

And then I was commissioned to work on a book project that will last 18 months. So that’s an ongoing thing.

And now, I’m preparing for a bazaar and of course, Christmas!

As I wrote this issue, I was also experiencing and choosing gentle healing in many areas of my life. You’ve read about some of them in this issue.

For many years, I thought of healing as only physical health. But now I am profoundly aware of not only my physical health, but of my mental and health emotional health, too. And so, healing now, for me, is a holistic approach. Everything is connected.

And because of that, I need to be patient.

I need to be kind to myself.

I need to be gentle with myself - my body, my heart, my mind.

For the past year, I’ve been talking about soft luxe living. But I forgot that that also applies to the things going on in my head and my heart.

I titled this issue Gentle Healing back when I was still writing Issue 01. I knew that somewhere along the way, I would need to sit down, stop everything, breathe, and heal. That time in my life was chaotic. So I knew some time in the future, I needed to slow down. And I wanted to do that with you, ladies.

With the help of some special people and the strength God gives me daily, even though I’m swamped with work, chores, mom duties, and whatever it is that lands on my plate, I feel that I’m in a better place now than the same time last year.

I’m also in a better place now because I decided that I can move differently. I don’t have to be tied to old beliefs. I don’t have to listen to this person or that person giving generic advice. I don’t have their life. I don’t have their body. And I don’t want to journey on the same path.

The magazine also moved differently this issue.

I told you at the beginning that Issue 04 will be different.

Life changed. Glow has to move differently too. Future issues will unfold over time instead of dropping all at once.

I have to do this slowly, publishing when I can.

Otherwise, I won’t be able to finish an issue with everything that’s going on in my life.

I’d rather you have bits and pieces of an issue daily than wait for 2-3 months for one issue dump.

I’ve also appreciated the fact that it’s really important to have someone to talk to, an escape, or an outlet for our emotions. I find that not only in relationships, but in my art, my writing, my journaling, reading, and my craft

And so, Glow Girls, during this season, I encourage you to go through your own Gentle Healing. And to have a support system, or at the very least, an outlet to allow your emotions to escape. Take up a new hobby, learn something new, read a book (whatever kind you want, yes even the spicy novels 😉), journal, do something artsy. Even just coloring will relax you and start your healing journey.

Healing takes many forms. I know that now.

And it shouldn’t be rushed.

We want gentle, permanent healing.

Last issue, I encouraged you to flirt.

Today, I want you to sit down, take a breath and ask yourself where you want gentle healing to take place in your life.

Come heal with me, Glow Girl.

Used to the Last Drop: The Ones I’d Already Told You About

There’s something particularly satisfying about finishing a product you’ve already written about. Not testing it. Not forming first impressions. Not wondering whether I’ll still like it three weeks from now. Finished. My Molang Honey sheet masks and this body scrub both made it all the way to the end. (Finally for the Molang sheet masks, right?) I’ve reviewed both before, so I won’t review them all over again here. But perhaps using something until there is nothing left to use is its own kind of review. Beauty products come through my bathroom rather frequently. Some are lovely for a week. Some get pushed to the back of a shelf. Some simply stop working for me. And then there are the ones that quietly disappear because I kept reaching for them. Maybe an empty container is the shortest review of all. I liked it enough to finish it. If you want to read my thought about these products, just type them on my search bar. —- With elegance and quiet fire, Lady E Founder, Glow by Lady E...

The Pleasure of Leaving It Behind

I really liked this dress. Enough that I stood there looking at it for far longer than necessary, having that familiar little debate with myself. It was black. Simple. Very me. I could already imagine how I would wear it. There was only one problem. The fabric was thick. And perhaps in another climate, or another version of my life, that wouldn’t matter very much. But I live in the Philippines. We’re going through El Niño. Heat and I are already not particularly good friends, and my histamine sensitivity has made me even less willing to wear something that might leave me uncomfortable simply because it looks good. Still, I stood there. Because sometimes walking away from something we like is strangely difficult, even when we already know it isn’t right for us. We start negotiating. Maybe I’ll only wear it indoors. Maybe the fabric isn’t that thick. Maybe I’ll regret leaving it behind. Then I realized I was trying awfully hard to convince myself to buy something my body had alrea...

Soul Notes: For Your Journal Tonight

Come sit with me for a while. I have my journal open, and tonight I’ve been thinking about something I suspect I do more often than I realize. I turn healing into another thing I need to accomplish. I want to know when I’ll be over something. When I’ll stop thinking about it. When something that hurt will finally stop hurting. When I’ll feel like myself again. And somewhere along the way, healing quietly becomes another deadline. Another invisible date on a calendar. Another thing I can somehow be late for. But maybe healing doesn’t work particularly well under project management. Maybe there are things I will understand quickly and things I’ll have to revisit again and again. Maybe I’ll feel completely fine one day and unexpectedly tender the next. That doesn’t mean I’ve gone backwards. It means I’m still moving through it. I remember one day, many years ago, when I had fibromyalgia. I lived in constant pain. I just couldn’t get a good day. And then one day, in the office...
