A Taste of Europe from Manila to Oslo: Finding Koselig in Marks & Spencer

This post is for all my Norwegian Glow Girls. There’s a Norwegian word — “koselig.” It means cozy, yes — but it’s deeper than that. It’s the kind of warmth that lingers in your chest after a quiet laugh. It’s the warmth of a single candle when the world outside feels cold. It’s what you feel when someone sees you — truly sees you — and stays. To my Glow Girls in Norway: I see you. Thank you for visiting this blog in the middle of the night, for finding your way here when the world is asleep. Whether you’re just waking up or chasing sleep that won’t come — it’s an honor to sit beside you for a moment. To offer you light. To be that quiet space where you don’t...

My Experience with the Laneige Lip Kit

I got this Laneige Dreamy Lip Kit in Baguio. I was looking for a good lip balm for a few months before I discovered this.  The Body Shop Avocado lip balm is not cutting it. I wanted something light and more powerful. While in Watsons SM Baguio, I happened to pass by the Laneige stand. I saw the moisturizer and thought that I might give it a try (more on that soon). Anyway, I also saw this Dreamy Lip Kit and asked the attendant how much it costs. I think it's Php950 (I'm pretty sure it was under Php1000). What a steal for 4 pots! So, I immediately got it and the moisturizer.  It comes in 4 flavors - Berry, Mango, Peach Iced Tea, and Sweet Candy. I'm currently using Sweet Candy. There's no applicator. I use my Bobbi Brown Lip Brush. The container is very good, nice and sturdy and compact enough for traveling.  The texture isn't very thick, which I like. It feels very smooth and easy to apply. After application, I immediately feel my lips calming down. I ha...

L'Oreal Glossy Balm

I am not a huge fan of lip gloss. I just don't like the sticky feel and I don't like my hair sticking to my lips. I'm pretty sure there are newer products out there that are not sticky but still, the damage has been done and I don't wanna go back there.  I don't like lip gloss but I do like a good lip balm, especially a tinted one like this from L'Oreal. The shade is My Babydoll and it looks like this: My lips are also acidic so after an hour or so, the tint gets just gets a tad darker which is okay. What I like about this is that I don't need to use a lip balm before I apply it. It's both a lip balm and a lipstick. When I'm rushing, I use this product. I'm normally a lip balm + lip stick gal but this is also a great alternative.  The color payoff is good and it lasts for a fair amount of time considering it's a drugstore product. The packaging is quite nice, very Clinique Chubby Stick like. But, given a choice between th...

Trying New Products

Happy New Year, everyone! So much has happened since my last update. My son and I went to Singapore on short notice because my SIL needed us. We spent several days there and my husband followed to celebrate his birthday over the weekend. I was able to buy a few new products which I will feature here soon. Today, I will share with you this lip balm find from the local Watsons. It looks like an EOS knock off so I checked the back. It's made in the US and not from China. My SIL doesn't buy stuff made in China and ever since I spent time with her, I became interested in knowing where the items I buy are made from. But of course, we all know that everything is made in China these days. I guess it's just a matter of brand recognition and trust for me. There are still great products out there from recognized brands that have transferred their operations to China. They still use their production standards so I'm not really worried. Anyways, I really like this lip balm. I...

Asian Secrets Lulur with Licorice and Mulberry Leaf Extract

This is Day 6 of my Project Stop & Splurge … and this is a scheduled post. In reality, today is Friday and we will be going to the mall in a few hours. I need to buy a few essentials for my baby such as bottle cleaner and food bags. My husband also asked to buy him some refill cartridges for his razor. Boy, I sure hope I won’t buy anything unnecessary.. Anyway, on to today’s topic. This is the 3rd variant of the Asian Secrets Lulur Indonesian Whitening Body Scrub. This has licorice and mulberry leaf extract. I don’t exactly know what these two ingredients do for you but I like this scrub. I can really smell the licorice. It has the same effects as the other two. I liked the original variant the best but when I tried this and now this variant, I changed my mind. I like the blue one best then this one and then the original variant. I also noticed that the rubbing alcohol scent of the blue one is gone.It now smells really good. I have a few TBS scrubs and I’m alternating the...

Choco Goodness!

I got this with the Chocomania special set that comes in a heart tin. This is the body scrub version. If you love chocolate, oh my… You will fall in love with this! It smells sooo good. I felt like I’m using chocolate cake batter for my body scrub. The scrub beads are bigger than lulur’s but it’s okay. They didn’t hurt. My skin felt itchy though just after a few minutes. I usually let my scrubs stay on my skin for a good 5-10 minutes. This did not even reach the 5 minute mark so I quickly rinsed it off. The second time I used this was better. No itchiness there. This lasted me for 2 uses. Will not buy again although it has amazing moisturizing properties (didn’t need to apply lotion and my skin still felt soft in the afternoon). I just don’t like the thought of applying “chocolate batter” on my skin. = ) Besides, I still have a ton of scrubs to go through.  So really, no reason to buy any scrubs whatsoever.

A Pretty Brush but…

it just does not work for me. This is the Leona Lewis for The Body Shop Kabuki Brush. I bought this because it looks so pretty. I also liked the soft bristles. The problem is the flower shape. When I use this kabuki brush with my loose powder, the powder does not get distributed evenly on my face. The powder gets concentrated on just one part. Instead of moving in one direction, the bristles are just everywhere and get stuck. I’ve also used this to apply powder foundation with the same results. I will try to use this to buff out blush. I think then it would work, fingers crossed. Right now it just sits pretty on my vanity. I’m very disappointed with this buy. I felt like I wasted money.

The Body Shop Raspberry Eau de Toilette

I try not to use one specific perfume or cologne or eau de toilette too much because I eventually develop allergies. I like light scents particularly fruity scents for eau de toilette. For perfumes I like fruity-floral scents. Anyway, I got this Raspberry EDT on a whim. I was attracted to the small bottle and the color. I’m glad it didn’t disappoint. It smelled sweet and as a matter of fact, too sweet but that didn’t last for too long. After a few minutes,  the scent mellowed down. It also does not last the whole day. I don’t bring my sprays with me when I go out as I’m scared they might break in my bag so I make sure to spritz a good amount before I leave the house. This is a good every day scent, by the way. Just don’t use this on a hot day or if you are going to the gym because I don’t think sweat and sweet smells mix.  I won’t buy this again because there’s a ton of sprays out there that I’d like to try.

Lip Balm Fail

I don’t like this lip balm at all. There, I said it. This is the Caribbean Iced Tea from DuWop. The other flavor, Mint Mojito, tasted a bit bitter to me so I chucked it. Before I swiped this flavor on my lips, I tested/tasted it first. It was okay. No bitter taste there. Then, I swiped some lipstick on top of it and it tasted horrible! It was soooo bitter! I tried different lipsticks and got the same results. I don’t know why it reacted that way to lipstick but I decided to just chuck this too. I didn’t want to risk it. This is Ruby Grapefruit, by the way. I always use lip balms with lipsticks so there was no point in keeping this. I will never buy DuWop products again. All the products I tried were a huge disappointment.

Paul & Joe Liquid Foundation

I’ve been using this for a few weeks now and I’m very happy with it. The product is thick so I only need a small amount to cover my entire face and neck. There’s a stick/mini scooper included in the box. I find it a bit useless. It’s good to use as a stirrer. I need to stir the product before getting some so the oil can be mixed back together with the product. After stirring, I swipe the stick on the rim to remove the excess foundation. I use what is left on the stick. This made my skin a bit itchy the first time I tried it. I didn’t mind as my skin is usually like that. There are no weird smells. Like I mentioned, the product is thick so I have to blend it evenly and carefully so that I won’t end up with blotches of foundation on my face.  This lasts me the whole day and my acidic skin can’t even do anything to it! I only blot my t-zone with an oil blotter and I’m good to go. Sometimes I need to touch up those areas but it’s no biggie. I am really amazed at Paul & Joe...

STEAMCREAM

I’ve been meaning to try STREAMCREAM for the longest time but I still have a ton of lotions in my stockpile that I keep putting off buying it. One day, I was at Beauty Bar and needed some retail therapy as I was having a rotten time and I decided to just go ahead and buy one tin. I’m sure glad I did! I got this one as it’s my sign. There are many designs in Beauty Bar but I settled on this one. I can always go back for more. If it didn’t work out, at least I can still use the tin can. What is STEAMCREAM, by the way? Well it’s a handmade skin care product made in the UK and Japan. It uses high-quality natural ingredients that are fused together using a shot of steam. The result is a very light cream that feels so luxurious on my skin. You can use it for your face, hands and body. I’m scared to use it on my face as you know I have very sensitive facial skin so I use it on my tummy. If you’ve never given birth, you wouldn’t understand my situation. My skin was stretched out too ...

Too Faced Glamour to Go Review and FOTD

I’ve sold a lot of these palettes in my bazaars and online but I’ve only recently used this. I brought this with me to Malaysia. This was the only palette I brought because it’s complete and I wanted to pack light. I used my mom’s small luggage for this trip so I had to limit my cosmetics. Yeah, it broke in transit Too bad the blush broke on our way home but I already repaired it with some alcohol so now it’s okay. It’s not falling apart anymore. I like the combination of eye shadows. I like the fact that they are not all neutrals. I like some colour in my eye shadows as you may already know. There are also 2 glosses and 2 lipsticks. I was able to use everything in this palette. I also used this to apply makeup on my companion who was there to present her paper in a conference. Here’s a look I came up with when we were going home. I love this palette and I’m sure it will be a staple in my travel bag. Can you believe that I was able to fit all my makeup in th...

Canus Goat’s Milk Soap

Regular readers know that I am currently obsessed with soaps and shower gels. I am especially fond of milk soaps and other products that contain milk. Sadly, I rarely find one that suits me. I was lucky to discover this soap while perusing the lines of beauty products in Beauty Bar. There are different variants to choose from. I will not list them all as I already forgot. This one, the SA said, combats inflammation. I was sold the moment she said that. A bar costs Php150. It’s not bad in my opinion as it’s big and thick. I can hardly hold it in my hand when it was brand new. The scent is very mild. It has a blend of citrus and ginger notes. Sometimes I smell lemon, sometimes I just smell the ginger. I’m pretty sure there are other things in there as well. I use this at night so I feel refreshed and relaxed. After a long, tiring day of work, chores and taking care of the baby, my body badly needs some help. I can truly say that this has helped my body with all its aches ...

Physiogel Facial Wash

So I wanted an alternative facial wash because the TFS one is expensive and cousin C is now also using it. TFS was okay back when it was just my husband and I using it because it lasted a long time but now that there’s a third user, I have to think about my budget. This cleanser is more affordable. This bottle is just a little over Php100. I got it at Mercury Glorietta. I told myself that if it worked, I will buy the jumbo size which only costs Php800+. We used this for 2 weeks. The first week was great but I felt that it was too gentle for my skin condition. I felt that my skin was not clean enough. Like squeaky clean which I feel after I use the TFS cleanser. It feels like there’s a mask on my face after I use this. I started to develop pimples on the second week. Cousin C did too and so did MB. I knew from that moment on that this wouldn’t work out for us. This is a liquid cleanser. I have to use a larger amount (compared to TFS) to completely clean my face. It rinses out ea...

TRESemme Shampoo and Conditioner

I know TreSemme has been on our shores for a long time now but it was only when I went to Malaysia that I was able to try the shampoo and conditioner. This was a sample pack, by the way. I’ve only tried the treatment and it was good. I found something better so I don’t use that anymore. This duo is just okay for me. I did notice that my hair became a bit smoother after using the conditioner. A couple of days later, my scalp started to itch and I noticed that I was developing some dandruff. I don’t know if this caused it or  the leftover L’oreal shampoo and conditioner which I also brought along. Anyway, after that incident, I’m not willing to try this again.

The Body Shop Strawberry Soap

I love everything about this soap! I love the scent, color and the moisturizing effects it gives my skin. I like this better than the mango variant and will definitely buy this again. This costs Php195 (if I’m not mistaken). I will try the olive variant next.

Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Intense Moisturizing Treatment

I’ve been meaning to buy this for the longest time but I thought it was too expensive. Then I used some expensive hair products (like Kerastase) and saw how good they worked on my hair so I gave this a shot. I’m glad I did. I use this treatment 2x a week. It makes my hair soft and smooth even now that my hair is curly and colored. The scent reminds of Marc Jacobs Daisy. I like it. It’s not too intense like other moisturizing treatments. I also like the fact that it rinses out easily. It’s only been a few weeks since I had a perm but I think this treatment is affecting my curls. I noticed earlier today that my curls were straighter or maybe I just put too little curling lotion. I will observe in the following weeks. Overall, I like this product but I have a few other products I’m interested to try after this. This costs a little below Php500. It’s available at SM and Landmark.

Clinique Happy Body Smoother

I forgot that I had this lotion. This is a part of a gift set I bought a long time ago. I am only using this now. Obviously, the scent is Clinique Happy. The first time I used this, I was truly impressed. It made my super dry arm smooth. You can still see my “scales” but when I touch my arm, it feels smooth, not dry. The effect also lasts the whole day. The scent does not, though unless I layer it with the perfume. I’ve been using it for a few days now and I can see and feel the results. Too bad there is only a small amount of product in the tube. It’s not filled to the brim, just around 3/4. I believe this is a special product that they only put in gift sets. If it becomes available again, I won’t repurchase as I still have a ton of lotions to finish!

Coral Reef

I love the scent of this one! It reminds me of my VS shower gel. It has a hint of berries. My only problem with this is it makes my hands dry and rough. The bottle also leaks a little. I hope that does not happen with the Japanese Cherry Blossom PocketBac as I put that in purse.  It will be a disaster if that happens!
