This week’s makeup box

I went to the doctor yesterday. I never imagined that I would look forward to hospital visits just so I can get out of the house for a few hours. Anyway, here’s what I used for my makeup. MAC Fix Rosebud Salve Estee Lauder Mascara Bobbi Brown Brow Shaper Shu Uemura BB Mousse Revlon Liquid Foundation Bobbi Brown Corrector Bobbi Brown Gel Liner Bobbi Brown Palette Too Faced Leopard Love Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler NARS 15 Palette UDPP Etude House Beauty Sponge Benefit Confessions of a Concealholic Revlon Bronzer/Blush Duo I used my Duwop Isla Sirena palette for my eyes and lips. I was really surprised that the lipstick turned out to be very pretty on my lips: Too bad it does not last long. I had to re-apply while I was still at home and when we got to the hospital my cousin handed me my Carmex. She said there was no more lipstick and my lips were chapping.

My Must-Have Products for Women in their 30’s

I’m 31 and as I get older, my product collection evolves. I’m lucky that I learned to take care of my skin at an early age. The only thing that wrecked my skin was my bout with steroids but I’m slowly recovering from it. I’d like to share with you my must-have products. Moisturizer First is skin care. If you don’t have a concrete skin care regime yet, you better start now. Anti-aging products are popular during this age but I think I’m allergic to them so I choose my products carefully. A good moisturizer is a must-have and.. Eye Cream Stress can take a toll on our features, especially our eye area and you need a good product to combat that. Eye Liners Women in their 30’s can get away with bold cat eyes so you better have the tools to make them. You can choose liquid, gel or the good old reliable pencil. Cheek Tint You need some color in your cheeks and a good cheek tint can give you a healthy flush. It’s also good if you have dry skin. Beauty Oil I didn’t ...

My Favorite Multitasking Products

I didn’t realize the importance of multitasking makeup until I got so busy with Hyphen and Table E last year. I now appreciate them and enjoy using them even on days when it’s not so harried. Here are my favorites: First is Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl. This is a highlighter but I used it as a primer before and it gave me that dewy look. I haven’t opened this tube yet because I still have a lot of highlighters to finish. Next is my Pot Rouge from Bobbi Brown. I only used this for my lips but then one day my cheeks were so dry that I needed a cream blush and this turned out to be the perfect shade. I now use it for my cheeks as well. I probably won’t be able to stop praising this Stila One Step. I am almost through with this bottle and I will really miss it once I hit pan. Finally, these two lip and cheek creams from Etude House. They are perfect for everyday use. I think these are limited edition. I haven’t seen any lip and cheek creams from the brand in a while. Oh, I almo...

Perfect Combination

I like wearing orange during summer whether it be makeup or clothes. Yesterday, I went to the doctor and decided to wear bright cheerful colors instead of the usual browns and pinks. I opted to wear Cha Cha Tint for my cheeks. But, I have a problem with Cha Cha Tint as it looks too orange on my cheeks. So I decided on this combination: Georgia is too light on my cheeks while Cha Cha Tint is too dark so this really was a perfect combination for my skin tone. Georgia really muted down the “harshness” of Cha Cha on my cheeks. It was truly a wise choice and I will be wearing this combination all throughout summer.

Time for a Summer Makeup Kit Makeover! (Part 2)

Continuing with our series, the next products you need are bronzers: You can use a cream bronzer (my current favorite) or you can stick to your regular powder-based bronzer: Remember that one tends to get darker during summer so you may need to change your shade. Bronzers look amazing especially if you have tanned skin from all that beach hopping! If you’re going to the beach, don’t forget to take your favorite bronzer with you. Opt for cream ones that have a bit of shimmer so you sparkle when the sun hits you. Next are cheek colors. Now I find that powder blushes are not enough during summer especially if you have oily skin. You need to layer your colors so they stay longer. I prefer using a lip and cheek cream or a cheek tint like Cha Chat Tint from Benefit. To avoid that sticky feeling with cream blushes, I set it with powder blushes in almost the same shade. I say almost because I enjoy mixing them up. By the way, Cha Chat Tint is the perfect summer shade for me! You...

My Top Concealers

I blogged about my top liquid concealers for my under eyes. Now, here are my favorite concealers. First is the Tinted Eye Brightener from Bobbi Brown which is also included in the other concealer post. It’s really a good versatile concealer. Next is the Erase Paste from Benefit. I got this pot from my Confessions of a Concealaholic palette. This is the best concealer in that palette. It’s very versatile too. Then there’s the Bobbi Brown Corrector. This is technically not a concealer but I can actually use this alone. I didn’t buy the concealer anymore as this gives me good coverage already. I’ve also been saving this and I only use this on special occasions. I already bought a backup pot because as you can see, it’s running out. This is the best in the bunch. Finally, the NARS Custard and Ginger duo which I depotted. I haven’t been using this for a while but when I did, I was really amazed. It glided so smoothly on my super dry skin and it didn’t cake the whole day! The Erase...

My Favorite Benefit Products

I have several Benefit products but these are my ultimate favorites. I would purchase them again once I run out. Girl Meets Pearl This is a great highlighter. Actually, I thought that this was a face primer so that’s how I used it before. As a primer, it gives me a nice glow. I usually use this with my BB creams or my Laura Mercier Liquid Foundation. I haven’t tried using this as a highlighter yet. This is my backup tube and I haven’t opened it yet. Erase Paste This is at the top of my concealer list. I love this and I’ve been saving it although I still have another backup jar in my stash. It’s great for under eyes, the sides of the nose, blemishes, etc. Definitely one of the best concealers I’ve ever tried. That Gal This is one of my favorite primers. I stopped using this for a while because I want to finish my Stila 3-in-1 first as I bought that way before That Gal. Once I finish the Stila primer, this will be my every day primer. I want to try a few products from Benefi...

Boi-Ing!

This is still part of the Benefit Confessions of a Concealaholic palette. These are Boi-Ing 1 and 2. I already hit pan on both because these are my everyday concealers. I combine both to get the perfect shade. I use this under my eyes, on the sides of my nose and on other blemishes. They’re really good and last the whole day. Sometimes they crease on the area under my eyes, sometimes they don’t. It all depends on the condition of my skin. I can’t wait to finish this as I have more concealers to use.

Benefit Lemon Aid

I am busy preparing for a trip that is why there is a scarcity of posts. Anyway, I will blog tonight as much as I can to make up for lost time. Here is Lemon Aid, part of the Confessions of a Concealaholic palette. I did not bother to make it pretty. After all, this is how most girls use their make up unless you’re OC. I took the photo in December. I already hit pan on this but I still have a long way to go. Lemon Aid’s texture is similar to Elianto’s eye primer. I use my fingers to apply this so that I can distribute it evenly on my lids. It has a yellow tint and it goes on yellow on my lids too. It’s yellow to help brighten the dark spots on your eyes. If I don’t blend this properly, it creases and cakes. It does not make drugstore eyeshadow last longer although it does an okay job with the high end ones. Urban Decay shadows work best with this probably because it’s a really good eyeshadow brand. If you wear your make up in the morning, you would have to retouch after...

Benefit That Gal

I have no idea why I don’t have blog posts of products that I like. One example is this Benefit That Gal brightening face primer. I’ve been using it for a long time now and I was surprised that it wasn’t in the archives. I finished this travel tube last November. I have a full sized one waiting to be opened. I finished this first because I opened this first. Right now, I’m using Girl Meets Pearl which is also another great product. Will blog about that soon. Anyway, this primer is pink. I avoided using face primers for some time because of my acidic skin. I found this tube again after a few months and decided to give it a second try. It turns out, I need to have the right combination of products in order for this to work. I’m happy to say that all my current foundations and BB creams go with this product nicely. I no longer suffer from skin darkening due to acidity. I guess it’s the combination of products and my diet that has changed my skin’s condition dramatically. My ski...

October Cosmetics

As mentioned in my previous post,  I will be grouping my cosmetics monthly so that I will be able to use all of them. If you only knew how much cosmetics I have! I really want to use and finish them all. So I hope I can have good results with this experiment. Here are my October Cosmetics: I know it looks chaotic but don’t worry! I grouped them and took individual photos. Let’s start with the face: I seriously need to finish my Laura Mercier cream foundation (Bamboo Beige). It’s hanging by a thread and I think I only have 3 uses left for this tube. Next is the Palgantong Powder in Pearl Beige. I haven’t used this yet although I have used it on my clients. Let’s see if it can at least live with my acidic face for a couple of hours. This Benefit That Gal primer is also hanging by a thread so I better finish it fast. Next is Benefit High Beam and ELF HD Undereye Setting Powder (to be blogged soon). Lastly, the Benefit Confessions of a Concealaholic kit. This is another produc...

Benefit Cha Cha Tint

I like this better than Posie Tint. It lasts much longer and the color shows better on my skin. Here’s the swatch: I usually swipe the brush twice on my cheeks, being careful to apply very light strokes then I blend right away. That swatch on the photograph is not blended yet because I want you to see the mango shade. The product dries fast so if you don’t blend quickly, it will leave a mark on your cheeks. I did this once and I was left with 2 lines on my cheeks even after applying another coat on top of the 2 lines. The 2 lines were really prominent inside the cloud of tint. = ) I won’t repurchase as I have far too many products that I need to finish and by the time I do so, this product has been probably discontinued or Benefit has already come up with something better.

Benefit Posie Tint

This is a mini bottle which I got with the Finding Mr. Bright kit. I’m not very impressed with this product. It’s great to use as part of your everyday makeup. I think this is best for students, teenagers and young working women who need a little bit of color on their cheeks. The shade is a very sheer pink. I did not blend the liquid too much as it will disappear. I usually apply around 2-3 strokes on my cheek to achieve the pink shade that I want. I use this when I just want some light makeup on. It lasts for a few hours then you have to re-apply. I don’t usually take this with me when I go out because I find re-applying cheek tints troublesome. I bring a blush compact instead. It’s part of a kit so I don’t have any regrets. It’s an okay product but I won’t purchase a full bottle when this runs out. But if you’re a fan of cheek tints and you like light makeup, this one is great for you.

Having Fun with Benefit

My mom doesn’t like the packaging of Benefit blushes but I do. I think they’re fun and quirky. I especially like the brush that comes with each box of blush. The blushes that I have are Dandelion, Georgia, Bella Bamba and Coralista.  Here are swatches: If you have really light skin, forget about using Georgia and Dandelion. They wouldn’t show up on you. I have fair skin and I still have to put several layers of blush for them to show up. Coralista is a close dupe of NARS Orgasm. I use Georgia and Dandelion when I have heavy eye makeup but still want a little bit of flush on my cheeks. Bella Bamba is great to use on its own – just swipe some lip balm or gloss then you’re good to go. Coralista is a nice every day makeup. I didn’t experience any allergic reactions to these blushes. Bella Bamba lasts a pretty long time on my cheeks (I have normal-dry skin). Coralista is the same. I have trouble with the lighter blushes as I have to re-apply several times during the day so I...
