I am not a huge fan of lip gloss. I just don't like the sticky feel and I don't like my hair sticking to my lips. I'm pretty sure there are newer products out there that are not sticky but still, the damage has been done and I don't wanna go back there.  I don't like lip gloss but I do like a good lip balm, especially a tinted one like this from L'Oreal. The shade is My Babydoll and it looks like this: My lips are also acidic so after an hour or so, the tint gets just gets a tad darker which is okay. What I like about this is that I don't need to use a lip balm before I apply it. It's both a lip balm and a lipstick. When I'm rushing, I use this product. I'm normally a lip balm + lip stick gal but this is also a great alternative.  The color payoff is good and it lasts for a fair amount of time considering it's a drugstore product. Happy New Year,everyone! So much has happened since my last update. My son and I went to Singapore on short notice because my SIL needed us. We spent several days there and my husband followed to celebrate his birthday over the weekend. I was able to buy a few new products which I will feature here soon. Today, I will share with you this lip balm find from the local Watsons. It looks like an EOS knock off so I checked the back. It's made in the US and not from China. My SIL doesn't buy stuff made in China and ever since I spent time with her, I became interested in knowing where the items I buy are made from. But of course, we all know that everything is made in China these days. I guess it's just a matter of brand recognition and trust for me. There are still great products out there from recognized brands that have transferred their operations to China. They still use their production standards so I'm not really worried. I haven’t hit pan on my EOS Tangerine but I stopped using it already as it’s already flat and I’m having a hard time applying it to my lips. I don’t like to use my fingers and I don’t like to get up and get a brush every single time I need to apply it. And believe me, I apply it several times during the day as my lips are terribly dry and chapped. So, I decided to use my last EOS which is Honeydew. I love the taste of this one. It’s a bit sweet compared to the other variants. I just don’t know if it’s effective as the others. I think I mentioned that the most effective one is the Tangerine variant. I guess because it’s medicated. This green one has yet to prove its moisturizing powers to me. I’ve been applying it for a few days now and my lips are still chapped. The dry skin has become a bit soft but not soft enough to fall off or be removed. Anyway, I’m quite happy with this as I only use this at home. I can drink lots of water to help combat my dry lips. Remember when my lip balm collection looked like this ? Well, I’m happy to say that it now looks like this: I only have 6 in my collection and I’m happy to report that I have not bought a new one in 6 months. I will try to finish these first before buying a new one. I think this house arrest thing is paying off because I get to re-focus my priorities. = )

I’m a huge fan of lip balms so of course, I had to had these when they became popular. I was excited about the packaging but that’s it. We carried these at Hyphen and I was so disappointed. There was no quality control whatsoever for these lip balms. Here is my Sweet Mint: A lot of my customers complained about this so I had to exchange several pieces. One woman even went back twice because at both times she got damaged products. We opened the lip balms right away to make sure that she gets a perfect one. We had several unlucky attempts but we got one that was alright. So after my last stock was sold, I never re-ordered. I am currently using this mint lip balm. My lips are so chapped and the mint really hurts. It just does not give a tingling sensation, it really stings! Like I put calamansi (calamondin) on my chapped lips. This was a gift from my mentor. This is the Bobbi Brown Glitter Lip Gloss in Bronzed Pink. This is the applicator. This kind is not so common in lip glosses but it does its job well. Here are swatches. I used just the gloss for both swatches. I think it holds its own but I’m not a huge fan of lip glosses. This is also very sticky so this would be great to wear on a night out in town when you put your hair up so they won’t stick to your lips. = ) I don’t use this too much because, well, I’m sentimental and I don’t want this to run out fast. You can also use this during the day. Just be sure to use a base color and use this to accentuate/highlight your lips. Just apply in the middle part of your upper and lower lips.

At Hyphen, it’s funny when we have new products and people ignore them. When that happens, I usually just get them for myself. No use in letting them sit there. When I do that, that’s when people start asking for them. It’s insane, I know. Take this product for example. I absolutely love the color and I don’t know why people are ignoring it. When I wore this one time at the store, some clients were asking for it. Pffttt… This is a good lipstick. I don’t even have lip balm underneath and see how it looks so glossy. The texture is like a combination of lip balm, lipstick and lip gloss. That’s what you get from one tube. This is a very affordable lipstick at only around Php200. It does not last long but I don’t care. It looks very pretty and I can always re-apply.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the special edition Sephora Lipstick Palette that they produced to support the fight against breast cancer. We carried several palettes at Hyphen and of course, I took the last one. I only use this palette when I travel. It’s very convenient to bring in my purse as it’s small and light. It has 8 shades, a brush and a big mirror. It beats bringing several tubes of lipstick. When I travel, I like to have my complete makeup arsenal but who says they have to be big, bulky and heavy? Palettes are always my travel companions. Here are swatches: I never realized how pretty they look, especially the red one, until I processed the photos. When I took the shots they look ordinary to me but they really look pretty here. These are not exactly long-wearing lipsticks but they last for a good amount of time. I recently blogged about the Hello Kitty lipbalm being a disaster (just for me). This is another Hello Kitty lipbalm but in cherry flavor. It’s more pink than the strawberry one but still goes on clear. I also didn’t like this lipbalm because of the overwhelming smell and flavor. If I wanted to eat candy, I will eat candy. I just don’t like lipbalms that have too much flavor in them. On the other hand, I truly love this: This is Maybelline Baby Lips Pink Glow in Mixed Berry. It smells and tastes just right. I’m not sure if the 8-hour promise of moisture is true because I’ve been using all red lipsticks and they tend to dry out my lips. I guess this lipbalm works with other lipsticks just not matte ones. If I’m not mistaken, this costs only Php89 while the Hello Kitty lipbalm costs Php99. I have another Baby Lips lipbalm which is also great. I’ll blog about that soon.

A few posts back, I featured a haul I did during the ELF sale at Landmark. Here’s the Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry: I love this! I know there are a lot of negative reviews about this product but I am totally loving it. It's cheap (I only got it for Php119) and it has a clicking mechanism too! = ) The color payoff is nice and it lasts for a considerable amount of time. I think the secret to make it last is to have a good lip base. I used Carmex (review ni in the archives)  before swiping this. I’ll try to use this with my Etude House lip primer to see if it will work. I also like the applicator. It’s not harsh on my lips and delivers the right amount of product every time. I wipe it with tissue after application to clean it. I do that for my lip gloss applicators also. I have another one but this shade is my favorite. I can’t believe I only tried this product recently: For a lip balm addict, I sure am slow… I know Carmex has been around for some time and I’ve read and heard all the great things about it. I just kept putting off buying it. I guess I got swayed by all the pretty packaging of the other brands. Well, you have to admit. Red and yellow is not really very attractive for a lip balm. It kinda reminds me of McDonald’s. But anyway, that red and yellow combo is a classic and people identify with it. So who am I to judge a classic? So what else can I say that’s new about this product? Absolutely nothing! It’s a great product. It does not taste weird (in my opinion), it doesn’t smell weird. It makes a great base for my ELF liquid lipsticks (more on that soon) and other lipsticks. It makes my lips soft. Actually, it made my lips better. Before Carmex, my lips would dry out whenever I don’t have lip balm on. With Carmex, my lips are no longer that dry. But what I really love about it is...

This is another Too Faced Luster Liner. It’s called Caspian, if I’m not mistaken. According to the description, it’s a golden plum shade. It’s definitely not a day color. I think I can use this for more mature clients as deeper, bolder colors look good on them. This is topped with the Mermaid Girls Dig Pearls Gloss. I think I can get away with it if I top it with gloss. Otherwise, I look too mature. I also found that these liners dry up my lips so if you are using them, be sure to moisturize your lips. But, they’re great and they last a long time. It’s also fun to sharpen them! You wouldn’t understand unless you own one. = )

Rosebud Salve was very popular during the 80’s-90’s (here in the PH). I know that because most of my clients who recognize the iconic pot were teenagers during that period. They always say “blast from the past” whenever they see this. I was only introduced to this product last year and it was only early this year that I was finally able to try it. My friend said that it has a weird smell. It doesn’t smell weird to me though. I like the red orange color of the salve. I think it’s pretty. I like the tin can. It exudes that vintage vibe. I think most of us use this as a lip balm but there’s a reason why it’s called a salve. You can use it on dry, chapped lips, dry elbows and knees, dry heels, callouses and on small nicks and wounds.  I haven’t tried using this other than as a lip balm because I think it’s too expensive to use on my elbows and knees. But as a lip balm, it definitely works. My lips stay moisturized throughout the day after a one-time application before leaving home. ...

It was too late when I realized that MAC Quite Cute has launched here but I was able to look at them in Singapore. I was determined not to buy anything from this collection but when I saw Playing Koi, I realized I needed a light, nude lipstick to complement very colorful eyes. I’m very happy I purchased this lipstick: Here’s a swatch: Oh, and if MAC lippies are too expensive for your taste, here’s a nice dupe: The Etude House Darling Angel Lip & Cheek cream. These lippies really go well with vibrant blues!

In one of my Haul-over Wednesday posts, I featured 2 Lip & Cheek creams from Etude House. They are Sweetie Angel and Darling Angel: Here are swatches: This is Darling Angel (the one on the right) which is a very light peach, almost nude color. I like using this with heavy eye makeup. It balances the overall look. This is  Sweetie Angel which, in reality, is a bright pink: It’s almost like Bobbi Brown’s Pale Pink. This is a good pick-me-up lipstick. This is very versatile, in my opinion. You can wear this with neutral eyes or with colorful eyes. Just be careful with the color combination. You don’t want to end up looking like a clown. I once used this with a bright green eyeshadow and thought that I looked like a clown. Haha! So I switched to Darling Angel. But it worked with yellows, pinks, oranges, blues. So I went Lip Ice CRAZY last year. I finally found the time to blog about 3 of them. Here are the Lip Ice Color Lipbalms (for soft and beautiful lips –haha!): The three variants are Candy Apple, Pretty Pink and Sweet Rose. There’s a lot of product in one tube. This is Pretty Pink which looks really red. This is Sweet Rose. I love those tiny sparkles! Here are swatches: From top to bottom – Pretty Pink, Sweet Rose, Candy Apple. I just opened Candy Apple today and I haven’t used it yet like for the whole day. I just swiped it on for photo purposes. Lip Swatches: Pretty Pink looks very light. This is perfect as a base for other pink lipsticks. When I’m too lazy to apply and bring lipstick, I swipe Sweet Rose on. The sparkles and strong shade make it a good lipstick substitute.
