The Real Deal with Charm

I am a huge fan of the first set of Charm Travel Pro Brushes that’s why I pre-ordered version 2. I love my first set to bits, I use them everyday. That is why, you should understand that it is not my intention to bad mouth Charm. I’m just wondering why all of the reviews I’ve read about this set are great. They are raving. I don’t get it. I may not be a professional makeup artist nor do I know everything there is to know about makeup and makeup brushes but I think I know a bad product when I see one, more so, use one.

This will be a series of posts as it’s going to be too long if I write everything in this post.

Let’s start with the makeup case:

This is the reason for the delayed delivery. The seller had to return the first batch because of some minor problems. No biggie. I’ve already been waiting for a month, no harm waiting for one more week. The case is okay. It has holders inside for the brushes. You might have already seen the brushes inside the case so I won’t show a photo of that anymore. This is an improvement over the black one but I'm still not a big fan.

Here’s the set right after I washed them. This is the first washing.

Let’s examine the much raved about dual fibre brush:

That’s not very pretty isn’t it? See the fibers? They keep shedding and shedding and shedding. I end up with bristles all over my face whenever I use this. Well, I have to be honest. I stopped using this dual fibre brush after the third use. I just can’t handle the shedding anymore. I tried using this the other day and on my first swipe, had a piece of fiber on my cheek. Haayyy….

Not only that, this brush bleeds like crazy! Every single time I wash this, even without using it, it bleeds!

Next is the angled blush brush:

The fibers are all over the place. This brush isn’t very useful when applying blush. The color gets concentrated on one area. I need a different brush to blend and apply the color evenly on my face. If I use this, I’ll end up looking like a clown. Seriously. I think it’s too small for a blush brush.

It’s easy to wash but it looks worse when it’s wet. Because it’s white, it easily gets stained. Sometimes I can’t get the color out. I also made the mistake of putting it beside the dual fibre brush while drying so now it has some black spots. It looks pretty when it has pink blush on top though. = )

More brushes and more reviews to come.

  1. Hi sis! How much is this set? I'm raving for this set for quite some time now but now I'm thinking if it's really worth it. ;)

  4. @Kitten I was wondering about that too. I don't know if it's just my brushes or what. But I am really disappointed with this set.

  5. Eek. I've never tried Charm before. But the condition of the angled blush brush looks really sad. - Trace

  6. @Lady E: I believe it's priced at P1800 already, sayang that's still a lot of money to shell out when you expect good quality brush set.

  7. I'm a big fan of Charm brushes - their retractable kabuki brush was my first makeup brush ever and the quality was great. I also love love love their Flat Top Brush, which I use on a regular basis. But I have to say, I wasn't very happy with this brush set either. I got one to review for my blog, and I talked about the issues I had with each brush. I didn't like the face brushes and was even less happy with the eyeshadow brushes. The only ones I really liked are the eyeliner brush and the lip brush. :\

  8. @Lauren First of all, your blog is one of my most favorite blogs. I've been reading your blog since your ukay manila days. I have also read that review of yours about Charm and I share some of your sentiments. I like the old face brushes better.

Thank you for visiting my blog! I'm always excited to visit yours! = )

Alone Time

My good friend Kitten and I were supposed to go out yesterday but she had some unexpected things come up. I needed to buy some stuff as I am packing for a trip and so I went alone. I actually enjoy going out alone as much as going out with girlfriends or MB. It gives me a chance to eat whatever I like to eat and explore new restos. It’s also nice to take my time when shopping. After paying my bills, I had a late lunch at Toast Box: I love Hainanese Chicken. I sometimes cook this dish but it’s too tedious so I settle for eating out. I’m so happy that there are now restaurants that serve proper Hainanese Chicken. Well, except that one above was sooooo bloody. It was swimming in blood when I pulled the meat apart so I had it changed. You know what Gordon Ramsay says, bloody chicken is poisonous. This is the second time I ate at Toast Box and in both times, the chicken was so bloody. After lunch, I started shopping. First stop was Beabi where I bought these: The Sakura thermos on...

Soft Luxe Travels: Day 1 - The Journey to Vigan Part 1

In this post, we will start our journey to Vigan! The Night Before After packing our things, I did a few things for myself to help me relax and decompress so that I can sleep. I'm a night owl and not used to waking up early nor sleeping early, so I have to be strategic.  I painted my nails that night after all my chores, so that the nail polish wouldn't chip.  However, I forgot that I needed to make pressed sandwiches for our breakfast the following day!  Because really, what’s a road trip mom without freshly painted nails and a last-minute kitchen hustle? 😂 So, I had to do a lot of washing and hoped for the best that my nail polish will not chip! Luncheon meat, eggs, Kewpie Trust me, it tastes better than it sounds at 11 PM while trying not to chip your polish. That night, we also tried the Ube Halaya from Amira's. This was from our trip to Tagaytay . I'll try to make a review of this on my food blog . With everything prepped, I finally let myself drift off—half excit...

Holiday State of Mind

Sometimes, a quick escape is all it takes to reset the spirit. Tagaytay always gives me that holiday state of mind… Even a short drive can feel like a retreat when your heart is ready to embrace rest. My son successfully finished his recital last Sunday and as a reward, my sister treated us to Tagaytay yesterday.  Getting Ready for the Trip I decided to use my BYS Golden Hour Palette for today's look. Makeup, for me, is part of the ritual—it sets the tone that today is special. Here are the swatches: From top to bottom: Polaroid, Candid, Aperture, In Focus, Portrait, Panoramic In Focus is slightly wet, like something between a liquid and cream eyeshadow. The color is gorgeous! I love Panoramic, too! Polaroid is a bit chalky and not as pigmented as the shadows in the Queen Bee Palette.  Here are the face shades: Highlighter: Illumination Contour: Ambiance I haven't tried Illumination yet, only Ambiance. I used it on top of my BYS Bronzer. It's a buildable powder, a littl...
