On Being a Stylish Mom

Back when I was still single, I would have new clothes/accessories/shoes/bags every week. I worked in the corporate world so I needed to look my best every day. I invested a lot in fashion and beauty. When I became a mom, my priorities made a 360-degree turn. My son is now my focus and my passion for beauty and fashion has taken a back seat.

In the midst of this whirlwind life called motherhood, I came to realize a few things about myself. A lot has changed. My shopping habits changed, my style has changed, etc. But, I also realized that I need to take care of myself. I need to look good for myself and for my husband. I promised myself before that if I become a mom, I would be that cool, stylish mom.

With a writing job and being a full time mom and wife, it’s very hard to find time for myself, let alone go shopping for myself. That is why I rely on my newsletter subscriptions to be updated on the latest in fashion and beauty. I also do a lot of online browsing and shopping.

It’s January and this is the time I usually update my wardrobe. I give my all to my family during the holidays. January is the time for myself. February is also my splurge month as it is my birthday month. I have made a few purchases in the last few weeks but they were quick purchases so I decided to go online and look at what my favorite stores have to offer. My favorite brands include Mango, Promod, H&M, Dorothy Perkins and Guess to name a few. I usually check what’s available online so that when I enter the store, I know exactly what to get. This saves me time and money.

While researching what I’m going to build my wardrobe with, I chanced upon ZALORA’s Chinese New Year Sale. I’m really happy to find my favorite Mango essentials at a marked down price! I am also eyeing a few ZALORA dresses. Check out ZALORA's Chinese New Year Sale for fashionable clothing at great discounts.

My style has changed drastically now that I’m a mom. I look for both form and function. My clothes need to be stylish and comfortable. I need to be able to run around in them In saying that, here are a few of my wardrobe essentials.

A nice, sturdy bag like this one. I prefer roomy bags so that they can double as a diaper bag when I need them. I also look for bags with good structure and material. I’m glad my husband gifted me with some over Christmas. That’s one thing off my list.

I stopped wearing jeans for many years because I couldn’t find any that fits me nicely. I have finally found my perfect pair at Levi’s.

I like wearing skirts but it’s hard to move around in them when it’s just my son and I so look for comfortable skirts.

Versatile tops and basic ones are also on my list. I like having black and white tees and also some graphic tees which I can wear with pants, skirts and shorts.  I like this one from Promod.

Polos are fast becoming a staple in my wardrobe. I just like the whole clean, classic look of it.  Sorry for the wrinkled look. I just got this from the laundry line.

Dresses are for date nights or when my husband comes along when we go out. I can just relax knowing that he will be the one to chase after our son.  I like this dress from Mango.

As for shoes, I look for comfortable ones, mostly sandals, flats and flip flops. I have also incorporated some wedges back into my wardrobe. My sister and husband gifted me with these pairs over Christmas.

I now shop in bulk once a year to update my wardrobe and I would probably do most of my shopping online to save time. Also, the thrill of receiving and opening a package is just like Christmas morning, don’t you agree?

Alone Time

My good friend Kitten and I were supposed to go out yesterday but she had some unexpected things come up. I needed to buy some stuff as I am packing for a trip and so I went alone. I actually enjoy going out alone as much as going out with girlfriends or MB. It gives me a chance to eat whatever I like to eat and explore new restos. It’s also nice to take my time when shopping. After paying my bills, I had a late lunch at Toast Box: I love Hainanese Chicken. I sometimes cook this dish but it’s too tedious so I settle for eating out. I’m so happy that there are now restaurants that serve proper Hainanese Chicken. Well, except that one above was sooooo bloody. It was swimming in blood when I pulled the meat apart so I had it changed. You know what Gordon Ramsay says, bloody chicken is poisonous. This is the second time I ate at Toast Box and in both times, the chicken was so bloody. After lunch, I started shopping. First stop was Beabi where I bought these: The Sakura thermos on...

Soft Luxe Travels: Day 1 - The Journey to Vigan Part 1

In this post, we will start our journey to Vigan! The Night Before After packing our things, I did a few things for myself to help me relax and decompress so that I can sleep. I'm a night owl and not used to waking up early nor sleeping early, so I have to be strategic.  I painted my nails that night after all my chores, so that the nail polish wouldn't chip.  However, I forgot that I needed to make pressed sandwiches for our breakfast the following day!  Because really, what’s a road trip mom without freshly painted nails and a last-minute kitchen hustle? 😂 So, I had to do a lot of washing and hoped for the best that my nail polish will not chip! Luncheon meat, eggs, Kewpie Trust me, it tastes better than it sounds at 11 PM while trying not to chip your polish. That night, we also tried the Ube Halaya from Amira's. This was from our trip to Tagaytay . I'll try to make a review of this on my food blog . With everything prepped, I finally let myself drift off—half excit...

Holiday State of Mind

Sometimes, a quick escape is all it takes to reset the spirit. Tagaytay always gives me that holiday state of mind… Even a short drive can feel like a retreat when your heart is ready to embrace rest. My son successfully finished his recital last Sunday and as a reward, my sister treated us to Tagaytay yesterday.  Getting Ready for the Trip I decided to use my BYS Golden Hour Palette for today's look. Makeup, for me, is part of the ritual—it sets the tone that today is special. Here are the swatches: From top to bottom: Polaroid, Candid, Aperture, In Focus, Portrait, Panoramic In Focus is slightly wet, like something between a liquid and cream eyeshadow. The color is gorgeous! I love Panoramic, too! Polaroid is a bit chalky and not as pigmented as the shadows in the Queen Bee Palette.  Here are the face shades: Highlighter: Illumination Contour: Ambiance I haven't tried Illumination yet, only Ambiance. I used it on top of my BYS Bronzer. It's a buildable powder, a littl...
