Saturday Afternoon Project

I love Saturdays. I get to sleep in, get to pamper myself, I can have movie marathons, go to the mall, chill out or do useful/creative things.

What do you when your lipstick has reached the edge of the container? Do you chuck it or do use a lipstick brush to get the remaining product? You all know how I hate waste and I have 3 lippies that are on the edge or nearing the edge of the container. Plus, I also have these:

So, I decided to make this:

Open

Close

At first, I only wanted to depot(?) the 3 lipsticks. While doing this, I thought about how convenient this is going to be on hectic mornings when I'm always in a hurry to go to work. I wouldn't need to check my lipsticks one by one. Sure the sticker at the bottom helps but I still think the shade is different. Besides, the shade will really change depending on your skin tone. But I still wanted to see all my lipstick shades in one container and I still also wanted a tube to put in my makeup kit. After all, a lipstick tube is lighter and easier to carry around than a palette. So, I decided to just cut a portion of each of my lipstick. Do you want to know how I did this?

Warning: This is not for the faint-hearted and especially not for you if you're too attached to the appearance of your lipsticks. I have to admit, cutting the first one was hard, like pinching my heart.

You will need tools!

A big spatula that's thin and has a smooth, almost knife-like edge to cut the lipsticks, a smaller spatula that fits inside the lipstick tube and some wet wipes and of course, an empty palette.

If you're depotting a tube, use the small spatula to scoop out all the product. Flatten the product on the palette to resemble the shape. You can also melt the lipstick for a perfect shape but I was too scared that the color might change so I didn't do that. Use the larger spatula to cut a portion of a lipstick and to scrape off the product that sticks on the smaller spatula. When cutting, twist the lipstick to just the amount that you want to cut. Hold the bottom firmly so that it wouldn't release more. Place the spatula against the edge to make a straight, clean cut. Push down in one smooth swoop. Follow the shape of the lipstick tube. I have one tube that is slanted so I cut the lipstick diagonally.

Make sure to wipe off each spatula before doing a new tube so that the colors won't mix. Oh, if you like mixing your lipsticks, this is also a great idea. That way, you can maximize your colors. If  you only have 2 lipsticks, you'll get 3 shades instead of just 2 by mixing. How cool is that?

Also be careful about getting the colors on the edges of the round containers. You also need steady hands so as not to ruin the next container. If you like your lippies to be a little firmer, place the palette inside the ref for a few minutes to an hour depending on how firm you want your lipstick to be. I think I'm happy with this consistency so I won't be putting this in the ref anymore. Here's the finished product:

Well, Blogger has done it again. Sorry for the photo. I don't know why this keeps on happening. This last photo is even smaller than the others. Sheesh...

Anyway, for more convenience, I put my Charm lipstick brush in the center. I love how this palette has ridges/stoppers for the brush so it doesn't move around therefore not ruining the lipstick. The palette is also light enough and thin enough to carry around in my bag. This will be especially useful for travelling and for makeup gigs for friends and family.

So how do you like my little Saturday afternoon project? = )

Soul Notes: For Your Journal Tonight

Come sit with me for a while. I have my journal open, and tonight I’ve been thinking about something I suspect I do more often than I realize. I turn healing into another thing I need to accomplish. I want to know when I’ll be over something. When I’ll stop thinking about it. When something that hurt will finally stop hurting. When I’ll feel like myself again. And somewhere along the way, healing quietly becomes another deadline. Another invisible date on a calendar. Another thing I can somehow be late for. But maybe healing doesn’t work particularly well under project management. Maybe there are things I will understand quickly and things I’ll have to revisit again and again. Maybe I’ll feel completely fine one day and unexpectedly tender the next. That doesn’t mean I’ve gone backwards. It means I’m still moving through it. I remember one day, many years ago, when I had fibromyalgia. I lived in constant pain. I just couldn’t get a good day. And then one day, in the office...

Used to the Last Drop: The Ones I’d Already Told You About

There’s something particularly satisfying about finishing a product you’ve already written about. Not testing it. Not forming first impressions. Not wondering whether I’ll still like it three weeks from now. Finished. My Molang Honey sheet masks and this body scrub both made it all the way to the end. (Finally for the Molang sheet masks, right?) I’ve reviewed both before, so I won’t review them all over again here. But perhaps using something until there is nothing left to use is its own kind of review. Beauty products come through my bathroom rather frequently. Some are lovely for a week. Some get pushed to the back of a shelf. Some simply stop working for me. And then there are the ones that quietly disappear because I kept reaching for them. Maybe an empty container is the shortest review of all. I liked it enough to finish it. If you want to read my thought about these products, just type them on my search bar. —- With elegance and quiet fire, Lady E Founder, Glow by Lady E...

Part 1: I Finally Had Enough of My Dry Feet and Did Something About It

I have been annoyed with my feet for months. Not because there was anything particularly wrong with them. They were just dry . Really dry. And you know I have a problem with dryness (hello skin, lips). And somehow, despite noticing this constantly, I kept doing absolutely nothing about it. The moment that gets me every time is when I’m waiting for my son at piano class. I’ll sit down, cross my legs, look down at my slip-ons or sandals and there they are. My dry, flaky feet. Then I become painfully aware that there are other people sitting beside me who can probably see them too. 😂 Every time, I think, I really need to do something about this. And then piano class ends, life resumes, and apparently my feet are no longer part of my jurisdiction. Eventually, I had enough. I found this Mond’Sub Chamomile Foot Peeling Spray at KKV and decided that my poor neglected feet were finally getting some attention. The process wasn’t glamorous. There was peeling skin involved. There were bits...
