There was a time I wanted to be that girl.
The one who used reusable pads for everything—makeup removal, cleansing, the whole routine. It felt responsible. Thoughtful. Even a little elevated.
And to be fair, they are soft. Pretty. Almost too pretty to throw away.
But then my skin flared up.
Not the mild, manageable kind. The kind where your face becomes unfamiliar—reactive, sensitive, unpredictable. The kind where you don’t experiment. You protect.
And suddenly, those reusable pads became… complicated.
The Moment I Let Them Go
I had been using them during that time.
Different colors. Different uses. I even assigned them carefully—like a system.
But here’s the truth I couldn’t ignore:
I didn’t know which ones had touched the worst of it.
And with skin like mine—sensitive, reactive, prone to flares—that uncertainty isn’t small.
It’s everything.
Reusable means washing.
But washing properly means:
• hot water
• thorough cleansing
• completely dry before reuse
• no lingering bacteria, fungi, or residue
And in the middle of a flare?
That’s not a simple routine.
That’s a risk.
So I Threw Them All Away
Not one.
Not “maybe this one is still clean.”
All of them.
Because when it comes to my face, I don’t negotiate with “maybe.”
I don’t keep things that might reintroduce irritation.
I don’t try to save something at the cost of my skin healing slower.
Why I’m Not Going Back (For My Face)
Reusable works for many people.
But for me?
My skin needs:
• consistency
• predictability
• low-risk tools
And cloth—even soft cloth—comes with variables:
• how it was washed
• how it dried
• what it previously touched
That’s too much guesswork for skin that reacts easily.
So I’ve gone back to what works:
• Muji cotton pads
• makeup remover wipes
Not because they’re trendy.
But because they’re reliable. And tested. And safe for my skin.
But Not Everything Goes to Waste
Before I let go of the idea completely…
I realized something.
These pads still have value—just not on my face.
Other Ways I’d Actually Use Them
If your skin isn’t flaring—or if you want to repurpose them—these are where they shine:
• Gentle exfoliation (very light)
For areas like the neck, elbows, or hands.
• Cooling compress
Dampen with cold water and press onto overheated or irritated skin.
• Toner or body care application
Perfect for arms, legs, or chest.
• Blotting sweat or oil
Especially in hot weather without disturbing your makeup. Just pat, don’t rub.
• Hand and cuticle care
Apply oil or lotion, then gently buff.
• Cleaning small items
Think compact mirrors, cases, even your vanity surface.
Final Thoughts
Reusable isn’t always better.
Not when it adds stress.
Not when it introduces doubt.
Not when your skin is asking for simplicity.
Sometimes, the most responsible choice isn’t about saving something.
It’s about knowing when to let it go.
