The Day My Glasses Hurt Me—and the Soft Ritual That Healed My Eyes

There are days when even the smallest things—like the glasses I rely on—start to feel like too much.

I’ve had my reading glasses since 2022, if I’m not mistaken. I don’t use them a lot. Only on days when my eyes are blurry from high histamines and when text is very small.

I’ve had many blurry eye days lately so I’ve been using them a lot. However, I’ve noticed that they give me glasses shaped rashes.

Even the bridge of my nose and my nose got irritated because I’d let the glasses slide down!

This is my healing nose now. It was worse during the past few weeks.

I thought those were the only problems. When we went to Owndays last week to have my husband’s eyes checked, I talked to the staff and they said that they’d replace the pads to silicone as mine were hard and that could be causing the rashes.

The staff said that these pads are gentler on my skin. And they are.

So, that night, I wore my glasses again while blogging. After a few minutes, my eyes developed these:

They look like styes, but they’re not. They’re the same irritation as those on my nose and the rest of my cheeks whenever I react to something or when my histamines are high. They start itchy then they hurt like a pimple then they peel.

This isn’t the first time I got these pseudo-styes, so I observed and kept note of the timing. It’s always after wearing glasses. So, I’m not only allergic to the frame, I’m also allergic to the coating - this one has UVA, UVB, anti blue light coating.

My lashes rub on the lenses and then transfer the chemical to my eyes. I get the bumps on the exact same places every single time.

Healing My Eyes

Back in December when I got this, I applied heat compresses, thinking that it was a stye. One night, I was too lazy to prepare it and just pulled out one of my eye steam masks:

And guess what? It worked! The next day, the bumps were a lot smaller. By late afternoon, they were gone! So, I used this again this time around.

These KKV Hyacinth Eye Steam Masks are very different from the ones from Mumuso. These are more intense. The heat is really there and they heat up quite quickly. I only wear them for 15 minutes. Beyond that, they get too hot.

Quick Lady E Tip: After using, I like placing them on my feet when I sleep. The residual heat prevents my feet from getting cold and relaxes them. That’s getting my money’s worth! 😁

My eyes are very watery after, but in a good way because I could really feel how relaxed they are compared to before wearing them mask. And I feel like the tears wash away not only the day’s dirt, but the day’s stress.

The key is to wear them immediately and start the timer, so your eyes can get used to the gradual increase in heat. I made the mistake of not wearing it quickly and it hurt a little. I had to pat it gently on my closed eyes so they could adjust to the heat.

I can only wear one every now and then. I tried wearing this daily for about 3-4 days and you guessed it, mask shaped rashes. 😆

I’ve since stopped wearing my glasses, but if I really need to use them, I wipe them thoroughly with these wipes first and I make sure that I hold them up without the frame touching my skin. I know, it looks funny, but I can’t risk another irritation.

I really love these glasses, but I hate those itchy-painful rashes on my skin. I’ll replace them soon.

Glow Girl, sometimes what’s irritating our skin is right under our noses. If you’re having some  skin irritation, maybe it’s one of the products or items you’ve been using. Sometimes, even when we’ve been using something for a long time, we develop an immune reaction to it, so check and observe. It’s one of the safest and cheapest ways to check what’s going on with your skin.
