I Thought All Makeup Sponges Were the Same… Until My Skin Said No

 

There was a time when I thought I just needed better makeup.

A better foundation. A better powder. A better technique.

Because something was always… off.

My skin had changed—dry, textured, unpredictable—and no matter what I used, my base never quite sat the way I wanted it to. It didn’t melt into my skin. It sat on top of it, like it didn’t belong there.

For the longest time, I thought it was the products.

It wasn’t.

It was the tool I had been using all along.

One day in December, I went to KKV and got a pack of the Amortals X Tunee Goods candy powder puffs. I tried one and was blown away! It was a small puff but the effect on my skin was wonderful! 

And then, I got a BYS Blur Cushion and it also features a powder puff. With more experimentation, I concluded that powder puffs are the best for my skin.

And so, I went shopping at KKV for my birthday, determined to find more powder puffs.  On that trip, I found these:

You might think it’s a lot but that’s because I’m very sensitive and I change puffs quite frequently. I follow the same rules I have for sponges.

These puffs have changed my foundation game forever. I have dry, peeling skin, as you may know, because of histamine sensitivity and MCAS. Sometimes it’s bumpy too. These puffs help the foundation melt into my skin. And, unlike sponges that suck up product, I don’t have to use a lot of foundation with these sponges. 

I also feel that they are more gentle to my skin. They apply foundation evenly on my skin. I just gently pat and blend a little and it’s perfect! 

This experience has taught me to examine the finer details of my makeup and skincare routine. Sometimes I just need to try new things and experiment to find the solution. 

And above all, to never settle for anything less.
