Why I Still Dress Up to Go to the Grocery (and Why You Should, Too)

There’s something about slipping into a nice dress, doing my hair, putting on perfume, and stepping out like I own the world—even if it’s just for a grocery run. I might be running errands, but I'm doing it in style. And you know what? It made all the difference.

✨ Dressing up is no longer just for special occasions. It creates the occasion.

There’s a different level of confidence you carry when you know you look good. It’s not about vanity—it’s about power, presence, and pride. It’s how you take up space, own your energy, and remind yourself (and the world) that you matter.

Here’s why I still dress up—even for groceries:

It changes how people treat me. Doors open (sometimes literally), smiles happen, service is elevated.

It shifts my mood. I feel put together, accomplished, and in control.

It builds self-respect. I'm telling myself, “I’m worth the effort.”

It makes mundane tasks feel a little more magical. Like a main character montage scene.

It boosts my self-confidence. I'm healing rashes on my face. They come and go. (And no, I don't use filters. Just zoom in and you'll be able to see that my face is rashy.) I was actually complaining to my friend while getting ready that I felt so ugly and my face was in pain. I told him that I was going to dress up to make me feel better. And it did help me to forget about the rashes on my face and walk confidently.

And while we're here, talking about grocery shopping, here's what I found at Mitsukoshi. The photo above was taken at S&R, but there was nothing interesting, so I only took photos at Mitsukoshi.

Shopping at Mitsukoshi

There was a Jeju exhibit.

The packaging was beautiful. They're expensive, too! The drinks cost Php250-350 ($4.25-5.95), and they were just small bottles.

These masks cost over Php800 ($13.61). I'm not used to Korean masks costing that much

We got 2 of these. One for us, one for my mom and sis. My son tasted it and he said it was good.

Mitsukoshi Fresh

They have black garlic! These are black gold as one container costs Php1,250 ($21.26). I would like to try these soon though.

They have new furikake and sauces in these small bottles.

Manpuku Deli

There's a new Japanese deli at Mitsukoshi Fresh - Manpuku Deli.

I tried the chicken nanban that was being offered for free tasting, and I have to say that I didn't like it because it was too sweet for me. I talked to the president of Mitsukoshi Fresh about it (who was there, helping them promote the deli) and he said I can order it the way I like it.

I will try the food here, soon.

These prawns are new. Or maybe they just sell out before I see them. I wanted to buy one, but we were going to S&R after and I was worried that it might spoil. These are not from the deli. These are part of Mitsukoshi Fresh's ready-to-eat meals

They had these milk on sale:

This is from Kagoshima

This is from Hokkaido

This is what I got. I was looking for the artisanal gelatin solos, but they were gone, so I settled with these small cups. The Hokkaido milk on the left is my usual brand, but I also got the one on the right to taste.

Final Thoughts

Soft luxe living means you choose to live with intention. With elegance. With grace. Even in everyday moments.

So yes, I wear nice clothes to the grocery. I walk through the aisles like I’m on a runway. And I don’t wait for a date night to wear something pretty.

Because life is the date.

And I’m always ready.
