Soft Luxe Meets Bold Color: The Palette that Went from Weekend to Weekday
Last weekend, I reached for something new in my stash — The BYS Simply Nude Face Palette (part of my curated purchase last week) — and it did not disappoint. The colors were exactly what I needed for that soft luxe, effortless look I wanted to pair with my weekend outfit.
Shade Breakdown
Here’s the swatch lineup:
From my wrist:
Shade 1 (Thrive) – As you can see, it's very light. It's perfect for the base, but I also use it for my brow bone.
Shade 2 (Clear) – I love this shade. It's light enough to be a base color but dark enough to apply on crease, too.
Shade 3 (Planner) - Ah, the glitter eyeshadow. This is the ‘party guest’ of the palette — arrives late, steals the spotlight, but you forgive her because she’s so much fun. I had fun with this (or her!). Just be careful of fall outs. They hurt the eyes. But they stuck well to my lid. I love that BYS thought of putting a very glittery eyeshadow in there. It elevated the palette's use from day to night.
Shade 4 (On Top) – And how aptly named! I use this on top of Clear and Thrive. I don't think this will be good for the crease as it's a bit shimmery.
Shade 5 (Macchiato) - I love this shade for the outer V. This will also be good for a smokey eye. Did you know that you can wear a smokey eye during the day? Just use brown shades.
Shade 6 (Studious) - This is another shimmery shade. I used it on the outer V. Now that I look at it, I want to try using this for a smokey eye look.
Here are the face shades:
Why I Love It
✅️Perfect for: (day, night, both)
I already mentioned that the addition of Planner and the shimmery shades (On Top and Studious) made this palette versatile. It’s like having a little black dress that magically shifts into a ball gown when the lights go down.
Aside from that, the addition of the highlighter and contour shades make this an almost complete palette. Depending on your skin tone, you can use the contour as blush, too. I imagine this will be perfect for that lush dark skin. It gives an instant pop of color. Just a swipe or two and it will be perfect. Pinks are too harsh for very dark colored skin, and Foundational is perfect.
As it's called Foundational, you may also use it on top of your liquid foundation to make it set. Just a very light dusting on top. Take a big powder brush, swipe it on Foundational, tap the excess and swipe all over your face. Of course, your foundation should be the same shade as Foundational. You can also use this over concealer.
✅️Blendability:
It's very easy to blend, like my Queen Bee Palette. Just a few strokes and the finish is beautiful. And if you’ve been following my reviews for a while, you know I’m ruthless when it comes to blendability — no second chances for chalky shades here. (I'm looking at you, green Wonder Woman palette).
So far, I'm very happy with BYS eye shadows. The texture and quality are consistent over the 5 palettes that I have. Unlike brands such as MAC (remember the Wonder Woman collection? Ugh..That was terrible!) that are not consistent with their palettes.
The shadows feel like silk. Well, even the ones for the face. They don't irritate my sensitive skin. They glide on easily.
✅️ Pigmentation:
As you've seen on my swatches, they are highly pigmented. What I like about this eye shadow is that the lights are really light. They are buildable so you can use them as a base or you can build them up for more impact.
On the other hand, the dark shades are bold and punchy. I've heard myself exclaim, "Oh!" or "Oomph!" several times when I applied a particular shade for the first time.
If your eyeshadow doesn’t make you gasp at least once, is it even worth the brush strokes?
✅️ Case:
Some people might find the case too plastic-y or flimsy, but I know BYS' commitment to the environment and much thought has been put into this palette. The materials are probably recycled or recyclable. As with any palette, whether drugstore or luxury, you have to be careful not to drop it.
This palette is small enough for travel. Just take this along with your lipstick and blush and you're all set. Add an eyeliner and mascara and you have a complete night look waiting in your kit.
This is the first look I made for the weekend:
I used other shadows from the other new palettes I got. But I used all shadows for this look except Thrive.
I love how this palette makes me feel put together and confident. Definitely keeping this in my go-to stack for busy days when I still want that luxe finish.
Bottom line? This palette has officially earned its spot in my everyday glam squad.
Palette rating: 5/5 🌟
