A Few New Things

PCX is also another drugstore favorite of mine. I go there from time to time as they have items that are not available at Watsons. I found the bath sponges on the left which my son uses. They are soft and nice to use.  The hair spray in the middle is a protectant. I use it before blow drying my hair. It's pretty good. The smell is a bit strong upon spritzing but it dies down and is non-irritating.  The Konjac sponge is also nice to use. I'm not sure if this is an authentic Konjac sponge. I'm planning to buy another one from Beauty Bar so that I can compare. These are cheap by the way at only less than 100 pesos a pack.  This nail polish is from the Essence Spring Collection.  I love this coral color.  The thing I hate about Essence nail polishes is that they have a terrible smell. This is probably the last bottle I will buy.  And how could I resist this brush? I'm not a hearts girl but I really liked this one. I li...

My First Essence Products

So I realized that I haven't shared my very first Essence purchases with you. I got these in Watsons Singapore last November.  I was drawn to the display - really cheery pastels and circus/fair theme. There were no testers but considering the affordable price tag, I just added them to my basket. I checked them out when I got home in Manila. Little did I know that I was in for a treat.  Look at these swatches.  The blush is super pigmented. The first time I swiped my brush, I ended up with a ton of product. I was very careful after that. I like to layer this on top of a base shade. It's the perfect shade for spring.  This blush stays on a for a considerable amount of time. I have no complaints because it does great for a drugstore product.  I will share with you photos of the nail polish when I apply it again. Right now, I'm wearing another Essence nail polish shade but couldn't show you as it's already chipped!

New in My Stash

I only discovered the brand Essence when I went to Singapore late last year. I must be living under a rock because Essence has already been here for several months and I was clueless! I was blown away by how pigmented my blush was. (Hmm.. a quick search reminded me that I haven't featured that blush yet. Will do soon.). When I got back, I made it my mission to find the Essence kiosk in SM Makati. Sad to say, I was disappointed because the display was dark, a bit dirty and a mish mash of stuff. They don't even feature the latest collection properly unlike in Watsons Singapore where the winter collection was displayed prominently. In spite of that, I would always visit the kiosk but never bought anything. The prices in Singapore are way better. But, one day, the lipsticks were on sale so I thought it was the perfect time to try them. I also needed a quick pick-me-up and what better way to perk me up than makeup. So I got the two lippies, the best selling All About Matt and a...

What Should I Eat to Get Beautiful Skin?

What we put inside our body affects the outside. This is why a lot of people are careful with what they eat. I don't follow a strict diet. I'm pretty happy with myself. I'm not perfect but I'm happy. I eat what I want but I am mindful of the dishes I cook and the food I eat. In general, I am not a huge junk food eater. I do get the occasional craving for chips and sweets but after that, I can do without them for a long time. I am getting older and now I am more careful with my food choices. Aging is becoming a concern and so I want to help my body delay the signs of aging with these foods. Salmon and Tuna Salmon is a bit expensive here but I found a brand that sells frozen ones at a more affordable price. So, salmon has become a regular in our weekly menu. Salmon is an oily fish and you can get biotin from it. Biotin is a B-vitamin that produces fatty acids and metabolizes amino acids. It prevents your skin from becoming scaly. Tuna is another good source of biot...

How to Get a Natural Look for Summer

The natural look evokes freshness and youth, something that we all want to feel in the summer time. The natural look flatters women of all ages. You don't need to apply a ton of products and makeup. Just find the right ones that complement your natural skin tone to show off your clear, luminous face. I know it's a bit early for most of my international readers for a summer post but here in Manila, the heat has started and sometimes it already feels like summer so I thought I'd write this post to get you ladies ready. Start with a clean and clear slate I already discussed this with you in my last post. If you want to get a clear face, check this out.  Use a good primer This one from L'Oreal hides the pores to create a flawless look. If you have good skin, you can get away with just this product.  For the eyes, I like the Too Faced Lemon Drop. You can wear it as is or under eye shadow. Foundation Like I said, if you already have good ski...

How Do I Get a Clear Face?

Is a question that I've been asked several times over the years by clients and friends. Not to brag, but many professional MUAs are impressed by the quality of my skin even at my age. I was not immune to the occasional acne when I was a teenager. I didn't have a solid skin care regimen until I was in my 20's. I guess it's a combination of genes, good research. good products and luck that got me this far. But, you don't have to rely on luck to get a clear face. Today, I will share with you some tips to get a clean, clear, beautiful face. Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize I cannot emphasize this enough! I am still surprised that many of my clients don't do any of these steps. I usually ask a client about their skin care routine before I start working on their face and many (about 98%) say that they don't do anything, just shower in the morning then go. Some use body soap on their face while some use a facial wash. You need to find a good cleanser that will g...

Upping My Sun Protection

After this event and my conversation with the guest dermatologist , I thought about getting really serious about my sun protection. I use a few products every now and then but this time, I was determined to make it a part of my daily regimen.  Fortunately, I went on an impromptu trip to Watsons before leaving for Singapore last year. I discovered this Sun Protect and White Sunscreen from Nivea. It's safe to apply on the face. I was really scared, I have to admit because I have super sensitive skin but turns out, I have nothing to worry about. The blue logo has been a trusted brand in my house for many years. I am so glad I tried this. It's not sticky at all. It actually feels like moisturizer, just a tad thicker in consistency. It easily gets absorbed by my skin. I'm not really sure if it gives me a white cast because I am acidic but I think you can easily cover that up with foundation or even this product .  I wanted to stock up on a few travel toiletries and...
