The Beauty of the Everyday Bag Swap

Honoring your energy, one bag at a time

There’s something quietly luxurious about switching bags depending on your mood or your mission for the day. It’s not about having a massive collection or chasing the next It Bag — it's about listening to your energy and honoring your pace. Some days, you’re a crossbody kind of girl. On others, a structured shoulder bag calls you.

I didn’t always switch bags this often. There was a time when I used just one — until I realized that different versions of me needed different kinds of space. That’s when I began practicing my two-bag system, something I mentioned in this previous post — where I carry both a crossbody and a tote for different functions, but with matching energy.

✨ Why I Switch Bags Like I Change Moods

For me, switching bags is an act of presence.

Some days, I wake up with clarity and structure. I grab a compact crossbody, toss in only the essentials: phone, cards, keys, wallet. I’m light. Focused. Moving with purpose.

My other things go into tote territory. I carry tissue, wipes, an umbrella,  my pouch of Glow Kits, etc. I've listed what goes in my tote here.  There’s room for the full version of me.

👜 Some Days I Feel Extra Luxe

On those days, I bring out my bigger shoulder bags. I still bring my tote, but my husband carries it.

Some outfits require only one bag... but that doesn't mean the tote gets left behind.

The tote usually carries only a few things like an umbrella, water bottles, and snack kit. And any items we buy.

Mix and Match

The beauty of this system is the harmony. I have several bags and totes but they don’t have to match perfectly. I do like when they complement each other — like wearing coordinated lingerie under an oversized sweater. You know it’s there, and that’s enough.

Sometimes, the outfit dictates the bag

Other times, it's the activity. We were out for a quick shopping day and I chose that small bag. No need to bring my usual things.

When we're on vacation, I always wear a crossbody bag and bring a few totes. I had three foldable totes inside that brown tote. I was able to use all of them that day.

Sometimes, my mood dictates the type of bag I bring. On this day, I wanted to use my new bag from Calle Crisologo, so even though it was a short day, I brought that big bag.

Switching bags feels like switching roles. Soft Lady E mode. Boss mom mode. Adventurer on a lazy Sunday mode. We carry so much — physically and emotionally — that even our bags should support and reflect that.

✨Tips for a Smooth Bag Swap

Here’s how I make daily swaps feel seamless:

  • Core pouch system: I keep little pouches organized by category (tech, hygiene, snacks, beauty), so I can just transfer the whole pouch.
  • All the essentials: The first things that get transferred are my wallet, cards, IDs, and keys. Depending on the bag and our destination, sometimes I leave a few things behind like my membership cards when we're going to the province that has none of the stores that I'm a member of.
  • Prepping bags the night before: As I've mentioned before, I like curating my outfits now, so I plan them the day before, bags included.

In the End, It’s About Self-Awareness

Bag swapping isn’t about aesthetics alone. It’s a little ritual that gives me clarity — What kind of day do I want to have? What do I need? What will make my trip/errand/vacation comfortable, easy, and efficient? It’s self-care disguised as organization. A simple gesture that reminds me that I am allowed to shift, choose, and carry only what serves me.

🛍️ How about you?

Do you swap bags often or stick to one trusty companion? I'd love to know how your bags support your day-to-day life.

Alone Time

My good friend Kitten and I were supposed to go out yesterday but she had some unexpected things come up. I needed to buy some stuff as I am packing for a trip and so I went alone. I actually enjoy going out alone as much as going out with girlfriends or MB. It gives me a chance to eat whatever I like to eat and explore new restos. It’s also nice to take my time when shopping. After paying my bills, I had a late lunch at Toast Box: I love Hainanese Chicken. I sometimes cook this dish but it’s too tedious so I settle for eating out. I’m so happy that there are now restaurants that serve proper Hainanese Chicken. Well, except that one above was sooooo bloody. It was swimming in blood when I pulled the meat apart so I had it changed. You know what Gordon Ramsay says, bloody chicken is poisonous. This is the second time I ate at Toast Box and in both times, the chicken was so bloody. After lunch, I started shopping. First stop was Beabi where I bought these: The Sakura thermos on...

Soft Luxe Travels: Day 1 - The Journey to Vigan Part 1

In this post, we will start our journey to Vigan! The Night Before After packing our things, I did a few things for myself to help me relax and decompress so that I can sleep. I'm a night owl and not used to waking up early nor sleeping early, so I have to be strategic.  I painted my nails that night after all my chores, so that the nail polish wouldn't chip.  However, I forgot that I needed to make pressed sandwiches for our breakfast the following day!  Because really, what’s a road trip mom without freshly painted nails and a last-minute kitchen hustle? 😂 So, I had to do a lot of washing and hoped for the best that my nail polish will not chip! Luncheon meat, eggs, Kewpie Trust me, it tastes better than it sounds at 11 PM while trying not to chip your polish. That night, we also tried the Ube Halaya from Amira's. This was from our trip to Tagaytay . I'll try to make a review of this on my food blog . With everything prepped, I finally let myself drift off—half excit...

Holiday State of Mind

Sometimes, a quick escape is all it takes to reset the spirit. Tagaytay always gives me that holiday state of mind… Even a short drive can feel like a retreat when your heart is ready to embrace rest. My son successfully finished his recital last Sunday and as a reward, my sister treated us to Tagaytay yesterday.  Getting Ready for the Trip I decided to use my BYS Golden Hour Palette for today's look. Makeup, for me, is part of the ritual—it sets the tone that today is special. Here are the swatches: From top to bottom: Polaroid, Candid, Aperture, In Focus, Portrait, Panoramic In Focus is slightly wet, like something between a liquid and cream eyeshadow. The color is gorgeous! I love Panoramic, too! Polaroid is a bit chalky and not as pigmented as the shadows in the Queen Bee Palette.  Here are the face shades: Highlighter: Illumination Contour: Ambiance I haven't tried Illumination yet, only Ambiance. I used it on top of my BYS Bronzer. It's a buildable powder, a littl...
