Soft Luxe Travels: Marilao - Pampanga - Tarlac - and Back to Bulacan Part 1: Rosalie's

My sister and I had some pressing business to attend to in Tarlac, so we decided to go there one Sunday when she was free.

✨️Today's Look Breakdown

Eyes: BYS Blue Moon Palette. This is new. Will share my thoughts on this soon.
Lips: Peripera Ink Velvet 26, BYS Plump It Coconut Kiss

Nails: Golden Cap Oil-Based Nail Polish in Purplish Red

Quick Stop at McDonald's

My son and I havent had breakfast yet when they picked us up, so I asked if we can stop at a nearby McD's.

I took a photo of the Tiny Tan Happy Meal while waiting for our order. Not a huge BTS fan, so I skipped this Happy Meal collectin.

My son and I had cheesy eggdesal with sausage.

There was a fire near SM Sta. Mesa

Kuya Fil said that it has been going on for quite some time now. They passed it on the way to our house and now we're back on the same road and it's still going. I hope no one got hurt.

Rosalie's

Rosalie's is a pasalubong (homecoming gift) center in Marilao. They offer all sorts of local goods from different regions.

I guess each province has their own version of crinkles. They're everywhere we go!

These pastillas are also a regular in these stores.

Sorry for the blurry pics. There were a lot of people and I was taking ninja shots. 😁

So many different versions of pastillas from different makers!

Now, these are what people go crazy over. These are kakanin, or rice based sweets and delicacies. They're very popular and these shelves get wiped out pretty fast. I wonder how many times they refill these.

Another staple are tarts! They're also everywhere!

They have barquillos here, too, but I'm partial to the one in Tagaytay.

Meringue is a very popular pasalubong, too. I would've bought some, but we still have two packs from Amira's.

Different kinds of nuts. They even have the Good Shepherd peanut brittle!

I loved suman as a child, but now with my sensitivities, it's touch and go. Sometimes I react, sometimes I don't.

The puto pao has meat and eggs in them. Usually puto (rice cake) is just plain or some cheese on top. My son and I normally like puto, but I wasn't in the mood that day.

Different kinds of chichacorn or cornik as some call it. The best ones are from Ilocos.

Sweet and spicy dilis (anchovy) and pusit (squid). They're a popular snack and bar snacks.

They have lots of dried mangoes!

Here are more kakanin.

I like mini puto the best. I have a hard time finishing a regular-sized puto, unless it's really good, so these minis are just right for me. Now that I look at it, I wish I bought some. They'd be nice to eat with pancit (noodles).

When I was a child, I used to love sapin sapin, but I couldn't eat a lot of it or put a big piece in my mouth. It's so sticky that it makes me gag. I haven't eaten this in a looooong time.

I spy, with my little eye, Good Shepherd Ube! No Need to go to Baguio!!! I wonder how much it costs here though. Oh, those yellow things are probably leche flan. Hmm... I should've checked this fridge!

And now that I look at these bottled preserved fruits, I wish I bought some to make halo halo at home!! Oh, boy...I need to go back to Rosalie's soon!

More bottled food and condiments. What is Kikkoman doing there??

Candied tamarind

Cassava chips

These are banana fries.

Sweet potato chips

Crispy mushrooms. I guess we make everything into chips? 🤔😁

Mushroom chicharon

Shing-a-ling. I love the one we got from Taal. It's made with Squash.

Rosalie's has expanded so much since the last time I went there. They now have a section dedicated to chicharon!!!

These Tanyag kropeck (shrimp chips) are our favorite. I got 7 bags but I guess the cashier only scanned 4. I asked my sister if 3 fell in the car, but she said that she asked her assistant to look and there was nothing. I gave these away as pasalubong. They went to Laguna the other day and bought me 7 bags of these!! What am I going to do with 7 bags?? 😆 I guest I won't be buying these for a long time. I am grateful though.

I got a bag of chicharon and some kropek. That's it. But now I wish I had gotten more. Oh, well. We can always go back. 😁

And that ends our shopping trip at Rosalie's. Up next: The journey to Pampanga.

Soft Luxe Staycations: Binondo Series - The Great Buddha, Curated Purchases from Eng Bee Tin, and Last Thoughts About Ramada

After buying a lot of stuff on the first floor, we headed upstairs to eat a light lunch. Mom was getting hungry. My son and I just ate, but we said that we will accompany her and will just order something light.

All About Eyes

Lately I’m finding myself obsessed with skin care products, prevention in particular. I'm not getting younger and nobody likes lines and wrinkles, right? I should have done this in my early twenties but those were hard times and we didn’t have enough to support our daily lives, let alone vanity splurges. So now, I’m on hyper mode. I did not place any expectations on this product. I’ve had it with products claiming they can do this and that. I just tried the product thinking that if it works then great, if not then I’ll just find a new one. I wasn’t expecting a dramatic change but 2 weeks into using this product, I noticed that my under eye area has become lighter. The lines are also not as deep as they were before I used this product. I stopped using the Garnier eye products because I’m allergic to them so that means I’m not using any whitening products for that area. I am truly impressed with this product. I didn’t take a before and after photo as I wasn’t expecting this at ...

When You Need a Tiny Reset (Glow Cards Are Here)

The shade is actually a dusty mauve or muted orchid. It looks blue on the image, but it's not blue.  There are days when I don’t need a full day off — I just need a moment. A tiny reset. A quiet pause in the swirl of noise. That’s how Glow Cards were born.
