Small Luxuries I Add to Ordinary Errands

Some days, all I do is buy groceries from different stores. I spend the whole day going to four different stores just to get everything we need.  But even the most mundane errands can feel beautiful when I add a touch of softness and luxury.

Luxury doesn’t always mean expensive — it can be sensory, thoughtful, or emotional.

✨ Dressing with Intention

My clothes are arranged a certain way. For years, when I became a mom, dressing up nicely was no longer an option. I was always exhausted and had so many things to do that I would just get whatever was in front. After washing and drying the outfit that I wore, it goes to the back. This system prevented decision fatigue. But it also took the joy out of dressing up, which I loved during my younger years, as you'll see in my archives.

Planning Outfits

Today, I dress with intention. I plan my outfits the day before. Even if it's "just errands." Knowing that I'm put together instantly changes my mood.

I also stopped doing that system of wearing whatever's in front. I'm investing in pretty skirts, comfy shoes, and soft fabrics. I take my time choosing outfits whether it's for a mall day, my son's piano lessons, or running from one place to another to buy things. I curate everything - outfit, accessories, bag, shoes, tote, etc. Everything. It takes me about an hour and a half to finish getting ready, but it's all worth it.

I love wearing long skirts even for long errand days. Long day? Long skirt.

Signature Scent

My signature scent is fruity floral. However, I don't always wear perfume. It's bad for your liver, you know. But I still have some bottles left from the time when I was obsessed with perfume, so I still use them from time to time depending on the occasion.

My current favorite is Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet. But on most days, I opt for this:

The scent? Very floral, A bit sweet, but refreshing. And I like that the scent is not overwhelming even when I spray a little too much. Plus, it's 97% naturally derived ingredients.

“I dress not for the errand, but for the experience of being myself.”

✨ My Errand Bag Ritual

Errands usually mean my hands are full, so I opt for crossbody bags. And of course, I always bring a tote with me.

Inside my tote are small pouches - snack kit, my makeup kit, and another for miscellaneous things.

Handwritten Lists

I still write my shopping lists. Sometimes I just want something tangible to hold onto. I design and make my own paper products, too. There's just something so satisfying about creating these things with my hands that I get to use regularly.

This is my daily task list

I use this to leave notes to people when I travel like housekeeping.

✨ A Soft Pause in Between

When we have a full day, I make sure to pause, sit, and rest every chance I get. I burn  energy quickly because of my ADHD, so these pauses matter, even if it's just waiting for the cashier to finish checking out our groceries.
Sitting at Landers while waiting for my husband to finish checking out

This is my little luxury. A moment just for me.

✨ Treats that Spark Joy

Nagatoya Nagoya Chocolate Chip and Macadamia Cookies

I love Japanese food and snacks, so every time I shop at Mitsukoshi, I make sure to get a special treat like these cookies from Nagoya. These are really luxurious.

When I'm tired and stressed, picking up a beauty item always perks me up.

✨  Planning My Route Like a Lady CEO

I always choose stores that I can be comfortable shopping in. The place should have really good air conditioning ( a must-have for MCAS people), clean restrooms, good restaurants, and somewhere I can indulge and have a moment of luxury.

I also group errands by location to avoid overwhelm. I try to maximize our day, but I also keep an open mind that we may not be able to hit all the places that I planned to visit because of time constraints or energy levels.

And of course, my greatest luxury is having my son with me, doing all these errands together. Usually while holding hands, too.

Even my to-do list becomes a love letter to myself when I do it with beauty and intention.

Errands don't have to be boring or too hectic that they leave you frazzled. Pace yourself, adjust your route, and dress up nicely. And don't forget to indulge (whether that's a drink, food, or a beauty item) every now and then.

Alone Time

My good friend Kitten and I were supposed to go out yesterday but she had some unexpected things come up. I needed to buy some stuff as I am packing for a trip and so I went alone. I actually enjoy going out alone as much as going out with girlfriends or MB. It gives me a chance to eat whatever I like to eat and explore new restos. It’s also nice to take my time when shopping. After paying my bills, I had a late lunch at Toast Box: I love Hainanese Chicken. I sometimes cook this dish but it’s too tedious so I settle for eating out. I’m so happy that there are now restaurants that serve proper Hainanese Chicken. Well, except that one above was sooooo bloody. It was swimming in blood when I pulled the meat apart so I had it changed. You know what Gordon Ramsay says, bloody chicken is poisonous. This is the second time I ate at Toast Box and in both times, the chicken was so bloody. After lunch, I started shopping. First stop was Beabi where I bought these: The Sakura thermos on...

Soft Luxe Travels: Day 1 - The Journey to Vigan Part 1

In this post, we will start our journey to Vigan! The Night Before After packing our things, I did a few things for myself to help me relax and decompress so that I can sleep. I'm a night owl and not used to waking up early nor sleeping early, so I have to be strategic.  I painted my nails that night after all my chores, so that the nail polish wouldn't chip.  However, I forgot that I needed to make pressed sandwiches for our breakfast the following day!  Because really, what’s a road trip mom without freshly painted nails and a last-minute kitchen hustle? 😂 So, I had to do a lot of washing and hoped for the best that my nail polish will not chip! Luncheon meat, eggs, Kewpie Trust me, it tastes better than it sounds at 11 PM while trying not to chip your polish. That night, we also tried the Ube Halaya from Amira's. This was from our trip to Tagaytay . I'll try to make a review of this on my food blog . With everything prepped, I finally let myself drift off—half excit...

Holiday State of Mind

Sometimes, a quick escape is all it takes to reset the spirit. Tagaytay always gives me that holiday state of mind… Even a short drive can feel like a retreat when your heart is ready to embrace rest. My son successfully finished his recital last Sunday and as a reward, my sister treated us to Tagaytay yesterday.  Getting Ready for the Trip I decided to use my BYS Golden Hour Palette for today's look. Makeup, for me, is part of the ritual—it sets the tone that today is special. Here are the swatches: From top to bottom: Polaroid, Candid, Aperture, In Focus, Portrait, Panoramic In Focus is slightly wet, like something between a liquid and cream eyeshadow. The color is gorgeous! I love Panoramic, too! Polaroid is a bit chalky and not as pigmented as the shadows in the Queen Bee Palette.  Here are the face shades: Highlighter: Illumination Contour: Ambiance I haven't tried Illumination yet, only Ambiance. I used it on top of my BYS Bronzer. It's a buildable powder, a littl...
