The Art of Everyday Glow: Finding Beauty in Small Things

Some days are quiet. Nothing grand happens. No one gives you flowers or takes you to a Michelin-star restaurant. But somehow, you still smile — because  your meal was served on pretty plates, your nails looked beautiful in the sunlight, and you used a new shimmer stick that caught the light beautifully in your mirror selfie. That, to me, is the art of everyday glow.

It's not about sparkle or excess. It's about presence.

🍽️ Beauty on a Plate

I usually make my own corndogs. But one day, I saw some frozen Japanese ones that were on sale at Landers, and I thought I'd grab it to taste commercial corndogs. I prepped a lot of oil in my small rectangular frying pan and cooked them. I didn't know that they burned quickly! My oil wasn't too hot as I can't place my stove on a high temp for too long as it will have an error. The corndogs just really burned fast.

What did I do? Put them on my Hello Kitty plate, of course! And that changed everything. It still looked pretty amazing to me in the setup above. We still enjoyed the meal, burnt bits and all. Well, we did remove the black bits. You shouldn't eat those.

My point is, I plated the meal to be fun and enjoyable, ate them slowly, while watching something on TV with my son, and enjoyed the moment. That's the glow: making joy from what I have.

This is a very simple meal, but the plates and pretty tray, not to mention the fun Hello Kitty picks, made all the difference.

💄 A Beauty Product That Surprised Me (and a Review)

I recently tried the BYS shimmer stick, and wow — it gave my eyes a beautiful, natural glow, not too loud, just soft luxe. Like I had slept well and was in love with life.

Are you familiar with those twist crayons where you remove the top color to reveal/use the next color? That's exactly what this BYS Shimmer Stick is. It's fun and interactive and reminds me of my childhood. Not recommended if you're in a hurry though. Unscrewing and screwing those colors take longer than just opening a palette, dabbing your brush, and applying.

The colors are so pretty and perfect for my deep autumn palette.

Here are the swatches. I've been wanting to use more shimmer on my eyes, and this stick is the answer to that. Plus it's cream! I love cream eyeshadows.

Here it is on my eyes. I used all the shades.

Some important questions answered:

🤔 Did it irritate my eyes? NO
🤔 Did it last the whole day? YES
🤔 Was there creasing: YES, there was a little creasing, but I was able to fix it immediately then it never happened again during the day
🤔 Is it easy to blend? YES
🤔 Is it buildable? YES
🤔 Is it worth the price? For $6, heck YEAH!

It’s affordable, portable, and glow-inducing — definitely worth a spot in my daily kit.

💅 Nail Polish That Made Me Smile

When I was younger, I loved all the glittery, bright shades. I still love glitter on my nails, but not the bright crazy ones anymore. The shades that I didn't like back then were the browns, the mochas, and all the dark shades.

My friend recommended that I try some light browns and mochas. I have a more open mind when it comes to color now, and so I did.

One swipe of polish and I found myself staring at my hands throughout the day. I literally whispered, “My nails look so beautiful today.” That moment mattered. And it lasted longer than the polish.

One swipe, and I knew I was gonna be in love with this shade forever.

👜 Wrist Candies & Light Play

There’s something about how a dainty bracelet catches the light when you move just right. I noticed that while I was walking in an open-concept mall, doing errands. The sparkle felt like a reward for doing something ordinary. Little glimmers of delight — that’s the everyday glow.

I love making bead jewelry. I made the green one. Here's more that I made

I love wearing my wrist candies. They instantly give even my simplest errand outfits personality and pizzazz. Plus I smile everytime I look at them.

✨ The Glow is in the Noticing

It’s never about the thing. It’s about how you see it.

I’ve started noticing that glow happens when:

  • I choose joy over judgment.
  • I wear what makes me feel safe and beautiful.
  • I eat with intention, even if it’s just noodles and tea, and prettify my meal using pretty tableware.
  • I honor my energy — by switching bags, outfits, or plans.
  • Appreciating what I have. They may not be diamonds, but I love my wrist candies.

🕯️ Here’s What I Learned:

  • A moment of pause creates space for glow.
  • Your surroundings don’t have to be expensive to be beautiful.
  • Glow is a feeling, not a finish.
  • You can burn the food and still have a great meal.

At the end of each day, jot down:

  • One thing you found beautiful
  • One thing you felt proud of
  • One unexpected moment of joy

Watch how your perspective shifts.

✍🏼 Final Thoughts

You don’t have to wait for a big break, a bouquet, or a perfect day to feel radiant. You can find your glow in corndogs, shimmer sticks, and the way your jewelry matches your soul that day. The art of everyday glow is just that — an art. One that you can practice and appreciate daily, with whatever life brings.

Alone Time

My good friend Kitten and I were supposed to go out yesterday but she had some unexpected things come up. I needed to buy some stuff as I am packing for a trip and so I went alone. I actually enjoy going out alone as much as going out with girlfriends or MB. It gives me a chance to eat whatever I like to eat and explore new restos. It’s also nice to take my time when shopping. After paying my bills, I had a late lunch at Toast Box: I love Hainanese Chicken. I sometimes cook this dish but it’s too tedious so I settle for eating out. I’m so happy that there are now restaurants that serve proper Hainanese Chicken. Well, except that one above was sooooo bloody. It was swimming in blood when I pulled the meat apart so I had it changed. You know what Gordon Ramsay says, bloody chicken is poisonous. This is the second time I ate at Toast Box and in both times, the chicken was so bloody. After lunch, I started shopping. First stop was Beabi where I bought these: The Sakura thermos on...

Soft Luxe Travels: Day 1 - The Journey to Vigan Part 1

In this post, we will start our journey to Vigan! The Night Before After packing our things, I did a few things for myself to help me relax and decompress so that I can sleep. I'm a night owl and not used to waking up early nor sleeping early, so I have to be strategic.  I painted my nails that night after all my chores, so that the nail polish wouldn't chip.  However, I forgot that I needed to make pressed sandwiches for our breakfast the following day!  Because really, what’s a road trip mom without freshly painted nails and a last-minute kitchen hustle? 😂 So, I had to do a lot of washing and hoped for the best that my nail polish will not chip! Luncheon meat, eggs, Kewpie Trust me, it tastes better than it sounds at 11 PM while trying not to chip your polish. That night, we also tried the Ube Halaya from Amira's. This was from our trip to Tagaytay . I'll try to make a review of this on my food blog . With everything prepped, I finally let myself drift off—half excit...

Holiday State of Mind

Sometimes, a quick escape is all it takes to reset the spirit. Tagaytay always gives me that holiday state of mind… Even a short drive can feel like a retreat when your heart is ready to embrace rest. My son successfully finished his recital last Sunday and as a reward, my sister treated us to Tagaytay yesterday.  Getting Ready for the Trip I decided to use my BYS Golden Hour Palette for today's look. Makeup, for me, is part of the ritual—it sets the tone that today is special. Here are the swatches: From top to bottom: Polaroid, Candid, Aperture, In Focus, Portrait, Panoramic In Focus is slightly wet, like something between a liquid and cream eyeshadow. The color is gorgeous! I love Panoramic, too! Polaroid is a bit chalky and not as pigmented as the shadows in the Queen Bee Palette.  Here are the face shades: Highlighter: Illumination Contour: Ambiance I haven't tried Illumination yet, only Ambiance. I used it on top of my BYS Bronzer. It's a buildable powder, a littl...
